We might even be able to “unlock” things like international vacations and meetups with friends without masks faster if you take precautions now.
If you don’t live in a high-COVID risk area, there are no restrictions against it and you feel comfortable doing so, you can ignore the things regarding masks and physical distancing.
BONUS: Help me expand the list! Can we get to 200?
READ BEFORE COMMENTING: I have gotten several comments on past list posts that say things like “Solving Rubik’s cubes and watching TV is not productive, might as well surf.” Productivity is not the point of the list.
Physical distancing is boring. If you are bored, you might pick up gaming again. If you do these activities, you won’t be as bored, and are less likely to surf.
Physical Distancing = Bored = Surf
Activities = Less Bored = Less chance of surfing
So please DON’T comment to say things like that. Contribute to the list or add comments that spur discussion or help people (I.e. hobby subreddits or websites), do not argue about something that is not even the point.

Every year my friends and I participate in the 15 Second Horror Challenge. Rather than do one post for each short film I though this would be a much more convenient way to for Dreddit to check them out. This year we went with horror comedy because covid has sucked so much joy out of the year we knew we needed to try and get some Gallows humor out of things. Feedback is always appreciated, and if you just want to talk shop more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Enjoy!

2020.10.21 13:14 Crone_Johnson The Midnight Radio Show

The Midnight Radio Show
The headlights emitted bright beams of light, which illuminated the empty mountain road. Each bump my car went over shook the tree-shaped air freshener under the rear-view mirror. Casting their shadows over the road, a web of crooked branches protruded from the leafless trees on both sides. The hood of my car scattered piles of dead leaves in all directions as I sped through the night.
A few minutes away from midnight and the thirty first of October, the night was young. My nephew’s favorite day of the year, Halloween was something he had been looking forward to for months. I planned on keeping my promise, and being the first thing he saw in the morning, along with a special costume I bought from the neighboring city.
Some music would have helped the time fly faster. Being far away from a city, I couldn’t find a single station. Just as I planned on giving up, something came up.
A short catchy tune passed, signaling the beginning of a radio show, and a man spoke out with his calm soothing voice.
“The clock hit the one-two-zero-zero, it’s midnight, and we are live. As always, shoutout to the nightshift, everyone with insomnia, the night owls, all of you underaged folk who should be in bed, and knowing it’s Halloween... everyone and everything supernatural. This is your host Mark, ready to keep you company throughout the night. A quick word before we start; each night of the year, we sit down, and for a tiny fragment of our daily life, we go to another world. Forget the troubles that await our return, and we laugh, cower, and cringe together. It’s the time when the barrier between that world and ours is the thinnest, so let’s enjoy it.
You know me, I love stories, and each night we have a topic. Can you guess what tonight’s is?
Since it’s Halloween, we will be telling each other anything supernatural we’ve experienced. Anything from your socks mysteriously disappearing, to the ghosts you see in your selfies.
Good thing the night is long; there are a lot of people lining up. Caller number one, first come, first served.”
A quick beep signaled someone was on the line.
“I knew you’d pick me first, I just knew it!” a woman shrieked.
“I’m excited to meet you too,” Mark answered in a friendly tone. “But have in mind that some people are wearing headphones.”
“Oops. Sorry,” she lowered her voice.
“What is your name, and what story do you have for us?”
“Name is Tania. It’s about this pen pal. I’ve been single for almost a year, and everyone on the dating apps were intimidated by my good looks, so I couldn’t find a soulmate there. Then a friend told me prisons have this program where you can write to prisoners. It’s like a dating app, but with a bunch of felons.”
“So a normal dating app?”
“Haha, yeah. I did some searching, and found this really hot guy, whose only crimes were tax evasion and battery. After trading a few letters, I realized we had a lot in common. We were both animal lovers, liked art, liked music; the list goes on, so I wanted to arrange a date. He told me when the visiting hours were. Wearing my hottest attire, I arrived at the prison. The visiting room was this big place with a bunch of tables and chairs. Wouldn’t you know it, he was talking to another woman! Supposedly he hooked up with some bitch, and forgot our date. Could you believe that?”
“How is any of that supernatural?”
“If you saw me, you’d agree that not finding a soulmate is not natural.”
Mark cut the line.
“Caller number two, remember the topic, please.”
“This one is definitely supernatural,” a man answered.
“What is your name, sir?”
“Anthony. Night shift construction.”
“Much respect for your profession; what have you got for us?”
“Thanks, Mark. This is something that happened last week. My team of four finished repairing a small road at the park, and we thought we were done for the night. Our boss, who was always a chill guy, called and sounded stressed. Without giving us any details or time to prepare, he ordered us to repair a road in the outskirts. ‘No need to be a good job, just cover it up’ were his exact words.
The team and I jump in our truck. Getting there fast wasn’t a problem since there isn’t a lot of traffic at night. The old houses were spread a quarter mile apart; the neighborhood, if you can call it that, looked dead. On our arrival, we see chunks of asphalt scattered everywhere. I’m talking big pieces torn out of the single-lane road. A tole truck with a destroyed car moves past us towards the city. I’ve seen car crashes, but that vehicle was something else. I shit you not, it looked like a chewed up dog toy.
We park our ride and get out. Aside the headlights and flashlights, there aren’t any lights. The road looked horrible, I swear I saw gashes and claw marks. And they were big.”
“A monster, which hates roads?”
“Once examined closely, we found a tunnel big enough to fit a grown man. Whatever did that to the road, it came from beneath. Wish I could tell you what it was, but we repaired the road and didn’t discuss it. Guess it will stay a mystery.”
“Giant moles under the city; thanks for the story, Anthony.”
“No prob Mark, enjoy Halloween.”
“You as well,” Mark cut the line. “Much better than the last one. Caller three, keep the ball rolling.”
The beep followed.
“Hey,” the tired voice of a boy answered.
“Hello young sir, past our bed time, are we?” Mark joked.
“Sadly, yeah. My evil teacher brought down a hellish tsunami of homework on my ass. Listening to your show to keep my sanity.”
“Good on you for doing your schoolwork, name and story?”
“I’m Harry. I just finished writing this paper and celebrated, then remembered it was double sided.”
“Sounds really scary.”
“Just messing around. That story is true, but I’ve got a better one.”
“Go on.”
“This happened at school. To draw the scene: my school is big, and this takes place in the cafeteria. There are lots of people and tables. I’m waiting in line to get lunch. You can pick some small side things on the way, but the main course is the same for everyone. My turn comes, and this monster faces me. Our kind old cafeteria lady is replaced with this fat, ugly troll. Doesn’t even wear a hairnet to hide her slimy, short hair. Her stained tank top reveals tattoos and scars all over her arms.
She stares at me as if I’m a cockroach, and slaps a pile of crap on my tray. The old lunch lady wasn’t a five star cook, but the food she served looked like food, and was edible. I sat at the table I usually sit at with my friends, and start digging in the pile, trying to understand what it is. I glance at the lunch lady, and she is staring at me from the other side of the hall. I quickly take a bite out of it, and she looks away. It tasted like a salty banana dipped in barbecue sauce. A few moments passed before a sharp pain ran through my stomach. It felt as something was burning and stabbing my insides.
I got up and bolted towards the toilet. Halfway there, in one of the corridors, I vomited all over the floor. I was feeling dizzy, and my vision was blurred. I collapsed next to my vomit and stared at the ceiling. Then the lunch lady appeared above me. She extended her hand towards me, but grabbed what I threw up next to my head. She lifted the disgusting waste and dropped it in a bucket. Half-awake on the floor, I watched her walk away.
Right before I blacked out, I saw something I’ll never forget. The bucket was shaking, as if something was trying to get out. I heard nails click against its metal interior, and this creepy hiss. I never saw the lunch lady again. Turns out two other guys suffered the same thing, but we’re all fine now. They checked us, and we are healthy.”
“Sentient vomit... doesn’t sound fun.”
“Whatever it was, I’m just happy it’s over.”
“Glad you are ok.”
“Me too Mark, me too. Thanks for having me, but I gotta finish that homework. Wish me luck.”
“Good luck, Harry.”
The beep sounded.
“What an experience that would have been, poor kid. Next caller. Number four, name and story?”
“Name’s Balthasar, barman,” a man answered with his low pitch voice.
“What have you got for us, Balthasar?”
“You ever heard of body modification?”
“I have, but some of the listeners haven’t. Fill them in, will you?”
“Oh I will. Body modifications can be many things. As an example, the most common are piercings and tattoos. Then come contraptions, which deform your limbs, metal rods you stick through your body, getting parts of you cut and sewed back into something entirely different, injecting different substances under your skin to give your body a... different shape; definitely not for everyone, but it is art. I’m personally a tattoo guy with a little piecing here and there.
With that lesson out of the way, I work in an underground establishment for everyone with different tastes. I see all kinda people, but most of them are pretty cool. This nice couple comes each Friday; they mostly stick around the bar for a bit, and leave. I’ll call them Luke and Leia; not to give away names.
This happened last Friday. It’s around midnight, the club is pretty full, and everyone is having a blast. Then suddenly this strange sensation hits me, and judging by their looks, it hits everyone. I was close with my grandad, and when he died a few years back, I couldn’t leave my room for a month. I was depressed. That night, I felt the same way; I could smell the stench of death.
Some people begin to leave. Then this guy shows up, and sits at the bar next to Luke and Leia. Pale as snow, cosmetic lenses, which make his entire eyes grey, and dressed in all black. He casually orders a drink. He had his teeth chiseled; I had seen other guys sharpen, but never a full set. I’ll call him pale man.
While I’m preparing his drink, he is ignoring me. His eyes were locked on the couple. Guy didn’t blink a single time. I couldn’t quite hear him due to the loud music, but the couple sure could. Luke and Leia looked enraged but sat completely still. Really still, like statues. He is talking, then all of a sudden Leia smiles and sits on his lap. Luke is now terrified. And here comes the crazy part...
Pale man whispers something in Luke’s ear and French kisses him. And the kiss is long, like half a minute long, while Leia has this empty smile. He pulls back, and blood pours down Luke’s mouth. A piece of meat is hanging from pale man’s mouth, as he slowly slurps it in, and chews it. Hands all over Leia, he gets up and walks away with her. Luke is sitting alone, paralyzed in fear, blood pouring from his mouth.
At this point, I have no idea what I should do. They didn’t fight back, and the girl looked like she was liking it. I had seen people do kinky things there, but this looked wrong. I’ll call him Han, a huge guy who works at the establishment, came and dragged Luke out. I don’t know what happened to him, but he wasn’t outside when I was closing up a few hours later.”
“Eating someone’s tongue with a kiss, ouch. Sorry you had to see it.”
“Pale man looked pretty frail. If he ever comes back to the club, I told Han to kick his ass.”
“Glad you solved that problem. Thanks for calling.”
“Watch out for crazy tongue eaters, Mark, later.”
“Stay safe,” Mark cut the line.
“Nasty story, all kinds of things happen out there. Caller number... let’s skip the five, caller number six, my unlucky number.”
The beep was shortly followed by muffled noise from the other side.
“Caller number six?”
Heavy breathing became audible.
“Caller number six, do you have a story?”
The breathing continued for a few seconds, and stopped.
Mark cut the line. “Caller number five, we’re going back to you.”
The beep sounded.
“Yo Mark. It’s Fred.”
“Well hello Fred, is this the... sixth time you’re calling? Been a few months.”
“Dude, that’s so rad you remember.”
“What do you have for us?”
“Dude, I found the mermaid!”
“Here we go. Before you start, there might be new listeners.”
“Sure thing. Dudes and dudettes, a few months ago, I hooked up with a mermaid, but she kinda dumped me. Been searching for her since... found her a few days ago.”
“Were you high then?”
“Maybe, why would it matter?”
“Curiosity. But go on, the floor is yours.”
“Thanks my dude. I had her name and a sketch I drew, so I put up fliers, ads in the newspaper, and questions in Internet forums. I also walked up to people and asked them, but nobody knew her. One time I was asking this dude about her, when two huge dudes came and kidnapped me.”
“You are calling in so I’m guessing that ended well for you.”
“It sure did, my dude. They brought me up to this cliff at the coastline, and said I knew too much. Turns out my mermaid ran away from her father, who is now chasing her. He saw the ads, and sent his dudes to check me out. The dudes were actually mermaids too. Or merman. There are a bunch of mermaids who live in the sea as well.”
“Apologies for interrupting, but you should cut back on the drugs.”
“My dude, marijuana isn’t a drug, and all of this is real. They kicked me off the cliff... and my mermaid was there! Just like I remembered her. She kissed me.”
“Im glad you got a happy ending.”
“Not quite. I woke up on the beach again... without her.”
“You kissed a mermaid twice, who can beat that?”
“Yeah, I guess dude. Going to get high and listen to the rest of your show.”
“I know you will,” Mark let out a friendly chuckle. “Next caller. Number seven.”
“Markie, what up?” a woman sluggishly asked.
“Doing fantastic as always. Name and story?”
“Johana. My name is Johana. Second year in college. Do you know Bloody Mary?”
“The legend or the cocktail?”
“The legend. Say her name, spin three times in front of the mirror, and she is there.”
“A classic, would love to hear it.”
“Well... I didn’t summon Bloody Mary, I summoned a similar spirit. Her name is Acid Mary.”
“Acid Mary?”
“You take acid, spin three times in front of a mirror, and boom.”
“Does Acid Mary look like a burst of colors?”
“Yeah, did you summon her too?”
“Wild guess,” Mark cut the line. “Next caller. I feel like a seventeen, caller seventeen, you’re up.”
“Buenas noches.”
“Good evening to you as well. Could you speak in English?”
“Si.”
Mark cut the line.
“Caller number twenty. Name and story?”
“Who am I? If I told you my real name, I might as well sentence you to death. Only the highest of ranks in the most secret of secret organizations know my true identity. Low ranks call me The Carnage Cougar, a nickname I received for successfully completing over ninety-five missions. And by missions, I refer to ones, which usually require an army of hundreds. Assassinations, espionage, cyber warfare, defensive and offensive operations, you name it. I have driven anything and everything, from baby bikes and ice cream trucks, to nuclear submarines and spacecraft. All kinds of entities keep attempting to end my life, from the generic human assassins and hit squads, to eldritch beings and aliens. I know what you are asking yourself, why would someone like me call. Well it is simple, my job doesn’t legally allow me to talk about these things, but telling it here as a fictional story is a loop hole. And why would I want that? I want people to know how amazing I am. So don’t hold back on the worshiping.”
“Alright Carnage Cougar, amaze us.”
“I am currently undercover as a stripper. A biological warfare mutant escaped from the local secret government base, and infected a human. As always, I have to fix the problem. Sounds easy enough, right? Just kill them and get it over with. Well, that’s just it, they act and look entirely human. The special locator device, installed in the zebra themed speedo under my pants, can detect them up to a foot.”
“I’ll have to stop you right there; we’ll be forever grateful you shared this story with us, but this isn’t that kind of show,” Mark cut the line. “Hmm... a lot of people have a story to tell. Let’s look at the back of the line, number eighty-one, what can you bring to the table?”
A few seconds of muffled speech went by before a man answered. “Hey. First time caller.”
“A hey back to you, name and story?”
“My name is Ca-ugh.”
“Your name is Ca-ugh?”
“Ugh... no, I meant to say my name is Conor.”
“Sure thing, Conor. What kind of story do you have?”
“It all happened at the coast.”
“I love coast stories; the floor is yours.”
“My job doesn’t pay well, so to earn some extra money, I own a small boat I’d take out to fish in the sea, just far enough to still spot the city lights. The night this happened was different. I was there to... ugh... enjoy the view. Just as I was about to stop... ugh... enjoying the view... a distant pop focused my attention on the horizon. Opposite the city, far in the sea, a red dot blasted through the air. Someone had fired a flare gun.
While there were other boats closer to the shoreline, the chance they saw the signal was very low, and with no information, the coastguard wouldn’t have known to search there.
I hastily turned the engine on. My boat was definitely not a yacht, however I had mounted a small roof to partially protect myself from bad weather. Since I couldn’t tell the exact location the flare was fired from, I slowed down after relatively closing in, and unpacked a heavy flashlight.
'I’m here to help!' I yelled and moved the bright beam of light through the darkness. 'Say anything!' I kept shouting.
The further I moved away from land, the bigger the waves became. A shiny surface reflected moonlight. I illuminated a yacht.
For some reason back then, I expected a sinking boat or drowning people. Engine problems were far more common and likely to happen.
I was close enough not to have to yell, so I explained I saw their flare, and asked if everything was alright. The well-kept, seemingly new boat, didn’t have any lights on. This creeped me out a bit, so I proceeded to speak in a quieter tone.
The silhouette of a person appeared behind the windows.
'I can see you, I won’t hurt you,' I tried to sound funny and playful, but since no one answered, it came off as creepy. I was anxious. The sea had calmed down, and the only audible thing was my boat’s engine.
Suddenly, quiet, gentle humming came from the dark boat. There was something calming, and welcoming to it.
'Ugh... hi?' I asked. The two boats were getting very close to each other. I said that if they are alright, I’ll be leaving. It felt wrong when I said those words. I didn’t want to leave. Something forced me to turn my engine off, and listen. And not like some evil mind control; it felt calming. The moment I came closer, and the humming could be heard better, it moved away as if it was teasing me. The two boats bumped against one another.
I tried to jump to the yacht, but hit my toe, which in a way, snapped me out of whatever state I was in. The smile I didn’t know I had faded.
The humming stopped, and a figure exited the interior of the yacht. I instantly moved the beam of light on it. A young, pale woman in a blue dress greeted me with a calm monotone voice.
I lowered the flashlight’s brightness, and asked if everything was alright.
A single yes was all she said.
Before asking her anything else, I realized there was blood around her mouth. At first it appeared she was hurt, so I asked if she needed help.
She told me not to worry, since it wasn’t hers. The woman then took a step forward. Her hands, and long, brown hair also had blood.
Scary thoughts filled my head. I asked her whose blood it was.
She said it belonged to those who owned the boat. The woman hadn’t broken eye contact. It felt as if there was nothing behind her bright, blue eyes.
Her answer was in the past tense, meaning they weren’t there anymore. So I asked where they were.
And this is what she answered. ‘A vicious animal tore them apart.’
I turned the engine on, and escaped as fast as possible. The woman calmly watched me the entire time.”
“Killed a ship crew, but let you leave?” Mark asked skeptically.
“I’ll never know why,” Conor coughed, and cut the line.
“Strange fellow. So little night, so many callers. I don’t know about you, but I need a drink. Enjoy some music, while I take a small break. Don’t worry, I’ll be back...”
[BREAK]
“This is your host Mark, the clock hit the zero-two-zero-zero, and we are back. Friendly reminder to those who are joining, the topic is anything supernatural-related. It’s Halloween after all. Caller forty-two, pick up where we left, would you?”
“Only if you ask nicely,” a woman cheerfully answered.
“Would you, please?”
“My name is Rose. I hunt cryptids.”
“Interesting. Go on.”
“I have a team of two. Bill takes care of all the tech: cameras, GPS, vehicles, that kinda stuff. Linda does the research, she pretty much knows everything about any animal on our planet. And I’m the one who gets her hands dirty. My job is to hunt the creature, and tranquilize it.”
“How many cryptids have you caught?”
“Well... we have a lot of footage. But we haven’t caught anything.”
“Has the world seen this footage?”
“It has, but not many people believe it. People call it fake because it tends to be blurry. The story I’m telling has solid footage, and we actually caught something.”
“I think this is something everyone wants to hear.”
“We travel to all different kinds of places. The latest one was up at the desert north of Santa Bacia. Aside a few festivals ones or twice a year, nobody goes there. We picked up on some rumors that the government has been doing secret experiments. Problem is, a lot of other cryptid hunters picked up on it as well, so we had to hurry. We got on the off-road van, and off we went. The desert is a really big place, and we didn’t know the exact location of where these government experiments were being held.
Bill used two drones to scout ahead, which made it much easier. We didn’t think something would come up quickly, but it did. An hour in, the camera caught a big hole in the sand. Perfect square tunnel; led to a busted trapdoor. Complete darkness underneath. We dropped flares, which illuminated this large chamber. It was the real thing. Since there were no stairs, we dropped down ropes. Bill left me and Linda to climb down. First thing we saw was a busted metal detector. It was out of place, recently brought there. We faced a big reinforced door, covered in multiple dents and holes, one of which barely big enough for a human to fit. One after another, we squeezed through.
Now on the other side, we could see claw marks on the door. As if something had been trying to escape...
We found ourselves in a long corridor with doors on each side. Water drops leaked from busted pipes, which ran along the ceiling. The entire floor was slippery and wet.
Even though we had flashlights mounted on our foreheads, it was hard to see in the dark. Linda set up a motion-detecting camera. The place was trashed. A file cabinet was bent into a wall, as if it flew out of one of the rooms. Tranquilizing rifle in hand, we entered the room. Complete mess. Furniture slammed all over the place. File cabinets, desks... and they were metal. No human could have lifted them.”
“Hmm, I’ve got to give it to you Rose, you sure sound brave. This... secret government base sounds scary.”
“Oh it was, but I’m conditioned. I’ve been to worse places. So I’m in the destroyed room, and Linda points out something. Under a pile of metal cabinets, we could see a human arm. It wasn’t normal... it was sickly pale, and had blades protruding from its fingers. Metal blades! We tried to pull off all of the furniture, but it was just too heavy. We didn’t get an answer when we asked whoever was there if he was alright, so...”
“Since you found a corpse, I presume you called the police.”
“We tried, but our phones didn’t work. We called the cops later; I’ll get there. We took pictures of the arm, and kept searching. All of the folders on the floor were in some strange language. There were a few scattered pictures, and they were really creepy. Detailed pictures of bodies. They weren’t entirely human. Some had out-of-proportion limbs, others were unnaturally muscular or skinny. We kept some pictures and folders, and checked the other rooms. More and more useless cabinets. In the end of the corridor, there was a large double door. Of course, it was locked. So we climbed back up the ropes, got in the van, and left. We called the police, and they just told us to stay out of the desert. We came back and the square tunnel was full with sand. Lots and lots of sand. When we returned with some heavy machinery the next day, cops had blocked off the road. There is definitely something down there, and we have proof.”
“A picture of a Halloween costume hand?”
“I’m being serious!”
“Thanks for being on, dear,” Mark cut the line. “Next caller. I’ll keep this number secret. Number you-know-who, care to share a story?”
“Everyone here is a liar. You know it, I know it, they know it,” a man stated.
“You don’t believe in the supernatural?”
“Not at all, Mark. Stories are all cool to listen, but pretending this is reality is complete and utter bullshit.”
“There is no way of knowing.”
“Yeah there is. No proof, therefore not real. Rosie from the last call, you’re a liar, go get a real job. Cryptid hunter, pff, what a joke. Boat guy with the pale girl, get a girlfriend; maybe you’ll stop seeing imaginary people. Mark, listening to you is fun, but all of these peeps talking they’ve seen real ghosts and goblins is pissing me off.”
“Everyone has an opinion,” Mark replied in a friendly tone. “Real or not, taking a break from reality for a second hasn’t hurt anyone.”
“I get where you’re coming from. Love your show, but tonight’s topic is lame. Peace out.”
The line cut.
“Next caller. Caller thirty-seven, lighten the mood a bit, will you?”
“George here, and I’m with the last guy. Supernatural life doesn’t exist, but hear me out before you cut me off. Everything has an explanation. Wendigos? If they exist, they aren’t magical, they are probably some animal. Ghosts? In time, science will explain them.”
“Mystery carries its charm; logical explanations, answers, we always search for them, but maybe we should leave some things unknown.”
“I’ve got a story.”
“Go on, friend.”
“I’m a biologist, and there have been certain sightings in a certain swamp. I can’t mention its name, cryptid hunters might come, and disturb what is potentially a living fossil.”
“A living fossil?”
“Alligators have always been intriguing. They can grow a lot, but the one we’ve found... judging by shedded scales, and prints... it might be as big as a bus.”
“A bus-sized alligator? Wouldn’t that be hard to miss?”
“There have been sightings-”
“Caller forty-two wants to rejoin,” Mark interrupted. “Why don’t you two have a discussion?”
Both Rose and George were on the line.
“I’m a cryptid hunter as well, would you like my assistance?” she asked.
George let out a frustrated sigh. “I’m a scientist. I don’t go on wild goose chases. The creature I am studying is not a supernatural... cryptid as you put it... it is an undocumented species.”
“That’s what a cryptid is!”
“With all due respect, you keep filming people in Halloween costumes, I have research to do.” George cut the line.
“Research? Is that what you-“
Mark cut her off as well.
“Enough with the productive debates. Caller number... number thirteen. You’ve been waiting for a while.”
“Thought my turn would never come, chief,” a man answered.
“Lucky you, it did come. Name and story?”
“Paul. I don’t want to sound insane, but in a way, my story is a warning.”
“Ok Paul, warn us.”
“I’ll just give a quick explanation how I got into my predicament. Basically, law enforcement thought I did a few very illegal things, which I didn’t do, and they sent their guys after me. Late at night, by accident, they stormed into my neighbor’s apartment. I heard screaming and bashing, and got a head start. I’ll skip the part where I climbed a few roofs, had a chase through alley ways, and stole a motorbike.”
“You stole a bike?”
“I panicked. They know I’m innocent about the other thing now, but I’m going to court next week for the theft.”
“Good luck with that.”
“Thanks. So that was the intro. I’m on the bike, speeding through a suburban neighborhood, while three cruisers and a helicopter are on me. Out of nowhere, the brakes stop working. I crash into a pile of trash and bushes, and thank the people in the neighborhood for littering. I get the bike up, and its engine doesn’t want to turn back on. The three cruisers behind me also have that problem. Their headlights and sirens turn off, and they crash into each other. The helicopter can’t be heard anymore as well. My confusion is quickly replaced with fear when I see the officers exit. One of them has my biggest fear... a police dog.
This part of the neighborhood has houses packed really close to one another. I begin to climb over fences, run through backyards, duck in trash and bushes. I hear them shouting and releasing the dog. All of the sounds suddenly disappear. I burst out of some bushes, and find myself around more houses, but they are different. There are absolutely no lights inside. The street lights are also really dim. I can’t hear a sound...
At this point, I’m both happy I escaped in a way, but I’m also freaked out. I start to check the doors and windows, but they are all locked. Not normal locked, felt like they were superglued. Then one of the street lights in the end of the street flickers. I take a step closer to see better. It slightly wiggles like a string. That freaks me out even more. Then two long protrusions emerge from its sides. Its bottom half splits into two, forming legs. The street light takes a super, sluggish step towards me, and transforms back into a normal light. I glance back for a moment, and see the distance between street lights is uneven. They’ve been moving closer... they are gathering around me! I run back at the fences and trash. The creatures jump out of their lamp form and sprint after me. Just as they were about to catch me, all of the houses lit up, the sirens come back, and I feel the dog’s teeth sink into my leg. It tackles me to the floor, and in a second three officers are around me. I was happy a dog caught me, and not the street lamps.”
“What an... intriguing story,” Mark couldn’t find the right words.
“Thanks for having me, chief,” the man cut the line.
“Well, that was weird. I think there is time for one last caller. Number one hundred and one, you’re up.”
The beep sounded.
“Happy Halloween!” a boy yelled.
“Someone likes Halloween, why are you up so late, young sir?”
“My uncle brought me my costume!”
“Your costume?”
“Yeah. Arrived twenty minutes ago. He got me this glow-in-the-dark skeleton suit. It’s awesome. Uncle, say hello to Mark!”
“Apologies,” a man with my voice said. “My nephew loves your show.”
Mark chuckled. “And Everyone here loves him, am I right listeners?”
I could hear my nephew laugh.
“Made his Halloween even better, thanks for answering. Good night everyone," my voice spoke for the last time before the caller hung up.”
I looked at the glow-in-the-dark skeleton costume on the backseat. I was nowhere near the city and my nephew.
“So many people with so much to say,” Mark spoke. “Who knows what stories will be left untold... but hey, we have time. This one is for all the little moments we let ourselves forget reality, and dive into the unknown. Happy Halloween, listeners.”

2020.10.20 09:50 Ahmedsaaw Little by little rules to ricochet on the phenomenal side of media and beautification

Welcome back, and to start this notification, however, I'd try to switch over to the advancing, effort, and PR side of discoverability for a change. (There's essentially a specific extent of hard information we would all have the alternative to take before we deteriorate into Excel-based rottenness.)
Game makers, plans, and the media - make them vivacious!
ust say that Evolve's Tom Ohle has a dazzling Twitter string asking 'content makers' (upgrades and YouTubers) and media people about the game progression related practices that devs and wholesalers should quit doing.
A wide extent of good stuff in here. In any case, picking features, GI.biz's Rebekah Valentine notes on the media side, correctly: "No staggered embargos. I scorn embargos where another person has three hours supreme on me because each outlet that wasn't offered the news early will make the news subject to the principle story and beat me to it."
Also, beautification shrewd, the huge YouTuber Jay Feldman (8.6 million subs!) recommends that having media embargos before enhancement ones can correspondingly cause a colossal measure of deterioration. (He didn't put this, in any case, sometimes the media will stream the game similarly, right?) So in light of everything - consider who finds the occasion to see the game when.
Somewhere else, streaming music rights correspondingly came up a ton in the fitting reactions. Improvement atmosphere individual RedEyedMonster noted: "Quit placing endorsed music in games if you need plans and Youtuber Jay Feldman to play them. With the current status of DMCA and [copyright] strikes, putting music you don't have in your game will affect fewer individuals to have the choice to see it." Being set up to kill unapproachable music in your game's choices is another recommendation made somewhere else in the string.
I don't comprehend that you have to simply quit setting all endorsed music in your game. Regardless, value your sound rights issues for YouTubers/improvements. One 'secure' dev stunt is to move knowledge film to YouTube inconspicuously before discharge. You can see who attempts to share advancement pay or even copyright strike the video, and why. (Ideally, you realize the rights condition with your music, yet now and again, you may be staggered!)
At last, here's a good 'begin doing'. Jerk improvement/ex dev Ellie Joy Panic sees that "Having a huge amount of gifs for online media is something I've seen more places doing and wish I got more! Attempting to complete a more unassuming than commonplace survey string on Twitter is dull as damnation utilizing equivalent four pictures and gifs." Agree with this - GIF creation ought to be an aspect of everybody's arms hold.
(Discovered this string using Lizzie Killian's PC game PR flyer, which is excessively helpful!)
A require your (once-over of things to get? deals? other?) information!
Haven't done this for a long time, yet I expected to ask concerning whether they'd be happy to share more game plans/once-over of things to get information with the association for your specific game.
(We additionally watched Golf Peaks and the rounds of Bad Logic Studios, instances of different titles where we got full - or full - straightforwardness into income. Shouldn't be a game that is sold hugely, either.)
We're moreover alright with fragmentary straightforwardness, particularly on the off chance that you can discuss relative movements of complete game plans across different PC, reassure, and adaptable stages - as The Gardens Between did with us beginning late. (This doesn't avoid norms on express game plans numbers, yet gives everybody an overall thought.)
Notwithstanding, if you're into the possibility of Jay Feldman do wouldn't worry partner and we'll look at the best plan to introduce it. (You'll get the event to see the delivery before it goes out.) The more individuals discover the occasion to see information, the more they can value what's standard… or startling!
The game revelation news collects
• There's a tremendous measure of different things going on in the area of stages and revelation. Besides, I am a sworn individual from The Video Game Discovery Society of New York (est. 1884, we have a specific headquarters and everything.) So I am obliged by a grave pledge to present to you these additional notes:
• The 'giant F2P games dispatching on reduced/PC/comfort arranges quickly and looking mind-boggling' train, at last, gets the occasion to slug train speed with the Chinese-had Genshin Effect, which is similar as perfect and playable on iOS everything considered on supports. The people at game business declaration Master The Meta put out a huge amount of good nuances and experiences into the halfway Breath of The Wild-stirred game (envisioned), which is acclaimed because it shows "the move of another time of Chinese game architects who can make fun, breakout hits for generally speaking gatherings."
• A couple of Apple Arcade treats. First thing, most likely Reigns: Beyond is coming only to Apple Arcade. Looks great, since most Arcade blueprints to date were 'very' non-select, evidently more than they should have been. Moreover, the bleeding edge The Pathless has some base framework necessities that we're likely going to see a more imperative proportion of, as Arcade dispatches more eccentric games.
• There's unquestionably going to be an iOS variety of (Xbox) Game Pass, regardless of whether it needs to utilize a fragment of the program based workarounds that other cloud gaming associations have been utilizing, as per inside remarks from Microsoft's Phil Spencer that got spilled. Not shock.
• Individuals are getting around to playing the (many, many) games from the Steam Autumn Game Festival. Among numerous part articles, I regarded RockPaperShotgun's comprehension of their top titles. Anyway in like manner expected to incorporate picks from John Walker's Buried Treasure site, correspondingly as a LOT of YouTube accounts indicating a film of games.
• Sergei Klimov from Charlie Oscar has a Twitter string praising the fifth festival of front line table game hit Gremlins Inc, which joins some intriguing remarks and nuances: "Steam deals: 314K, surveys from Steam clients: 4.4K.. [all] DLC deals: 153K, generally, half of the center's game plans.. the aggregate (player) swarm is somewhat under 700K. Our overview of things to get topped at 140K and beginning now and for a significant length of time is skimming around 110-120K, paying little brain to the number of courses of action we run. The game got about $2.5M lifetime… that is about $1.5M that we collected."
• Micro joins: a program augmentation at present caution you if a Steam game is also in Game Pass (well, no business cannibalization, eh?); the Tencent-kept up Antstream is a retro cloud gaming stage that may be one of those Amazon Luna channels soon; another 'why Amazon hasn't got games right yet' article; and here's a reasonable New Yorker book survey/thinkpiece on how we can pay for the innovative psyche in the genuine age - zeroed in on music, still huge for games.

2020.10.20 06:30 throwawayaracehorse The Massacre at Crybaby Bridge: An Oral History - Finale and Aftermath

The following is the conclusion of my senior capstone for my journalism degree. I sought out to explore the truth behind a local legend in my hometown. My professor rejected the original draft due to its disturbing and unbelievable nature, even though everyone I spoke to claims they're telling the truth. The previous parts are available here:
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7
PART 8
BOB SCHROEDER, LOCAL HISTORIAN: The Massacre at Crybaby Bridge will live on in the annals of Somerset history and lore. Like all local legends, it’s not immune to thegossip and embellishments that are inevitable in a rural town the size of Somerset.
The state news covered it for about a week and it barely made a blip in the national news headlines. The nation was too caught up with coverage of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. There was also an effort by many members of the community to suppress the story. They didn’t want the travesty to be the only thing the town was known for.
STEPHEN PARKER: How much fight could I possibly have left? How much adrenaline did I have in reserve? I know that a certain point that death might come as relief. I would no longer have to feel scared for my life.
I wasn’t ready yet.
We rounded the side of the house. There was a barn out back, old and wooden. Completely dark. An old truck was parked next to the barn. Maybe it was open. Maybe it would have the keys in it. Nick headed straight for it. I followed. “Need...to...catch my breath,” he gasped. “Me too,” I agreed.
DAVID NEAL, SHERIFF, MOMADAY COUNTY: The Loveless property was a massacre in its own right. That place alone might be the kind of crime scene that sticks with you for years. Five dead at the scene and in all of those different manners.
STEPHEN PARKER: The doors to the truck were locked. We darted to the inside of the barn. We couldn’t hear anything from behind us, no signs we had been seen or followed. It was really dark in there and as my eyes adjusted I could see a tractor parked dead center of the barn and smell the musty scent of dust and hay.
There was a loft towards the back of the barn that was loaded with bales of hay. A ladder led up to it and in the back of the loft under the angle of the barn’s roof was an open window.
“Let’s hide up there, catch our breath,” Nick said, pointing. Looking back it seems like such a rookie horror movie mistake.
The loft was warm and stuffy and Nick quickly piled up a few bales for us to hide behind. We lied on our bellies like soldiers in a foxhole, peeking through a crack in our alfalfa barricade, waiting for the enemy.
DAVID NEAL, SHERIFF, MOMADAY COUNTY: The first body we encountered was Floyd Loveless. He was deceased on the porch with an extensive penetrating neck injury.
JOEY KESSLER, LOCAL RESIDENT, FARMER**:** They were confused as to what to do with that ol’ gal with the blade in her back. Everyone was afraid to move it. I got creative while they was twiddling their thumbs and waiting on the helicopter. I rushed back with my cutting torch and cut it down close enough to her back.
SKYE BRIGGS: What else could I do but pray? I’d never done it much before, but I sure as hell was right then.
STEPHEN PARKER: The mind of a teenager is not a rational thing. I don’t know what I was thinking. My best friend had just been brutally killed and I had seen it, seen him staggering around in his final throes before he collapsed. All of the others, too.
Maybe stress had done crazy things to my mind. Maybe the adrenaline and survival instinct had made it impossible for me to feel any sort of grief.
It felt like we were up in that loft a long time. I guess it was the silence that made it feel that way. All that I know is that I felt safe in that moment despite all that had happened, the dark all around, the warmth. It felt like there would never be another one.
I could feel Nick’s body rising and falling beside me, his heavy respirations slowing as he caught his breath. I could feel his warmth in the crisp autumn air and smell his sweat and cologne.
In the dark it was like we were anywhere else.
I whispered his name.
“Yeah,” he whispered back, and his face was close to mine as he turned. I took it in my hand and right there in that dusty, hay filled barn, I leaned in to kiss him.
The mind of a teenager is not a rational thing.
DAVID NEAL, SHERIFF, MOMADAY COUNTY: Around the backside of the house we found the second body. A decapitation had occurred.
STEPHEN PARKER: He didn’t turn away right away, didn’t shove me off in a fit of disgust. For a second he let me, I think. I could feel his lips and mouth and then he pulled away.
“Stephen. C’mon man. A bunch of people are dead.”
“Oh. Yeah. You’re right.”
He gave me a pat on the back and then whispered, “I’ve got a plan. If he comes here we can go out the window. It’s a twelve foot drop. We’ll just hang off the side and let go. Bet we could do it pretty quietly.”
Before we could discuss any more there was a scream.
DAVID NEAL, SHERIFF, MOMADAY COUNTY: It was presumed that Mrs. Lorraine Loveless had come out to check on her husband, encountered the perpetrator, and fled to the backside of the house.
STEPHEN PARKER: It was a woman’s voice, screaming “Floyd! Floyd!” and then these kinds of yelps that started sounding closer and then nothing.
DAVID NEAL: Next it was presumed that Shaun Loveless, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loveless that lived on the property in a fifth wheel camper trailer, attempted to subdue the suspect. His body was found nearby with a twelve-gauge pump action shotgun that was empty of shells. There was blunt trauma to the head with gray matter in the nearby grass accompanied with massive blood loss.
STEPHEN PARKER: After a little while we heard the angry shouts of a man, followed by several gunshots. From our vantage point, this seemed to be coming from a direction away from the house. Nick’s eyes got big. We inched backwards towards the window, but then he stopped, looked at me.
“I’m through running,” he said. His face was serious. “He’s just gonna keep coming and coming and more innocent people are gonna get caught up in it. I’ve got an idea.”
I could only stammer out a “What?”
“Stay here,” he said and gave me a smile. “Go out the window if things get too hairy.”
SKYE BRIGGS: They say the explosion could be heard for miles. I certainly heard it.
STEPHEN PARKER: Nick slithered down the ladder, disappeared in the shadows below me. I waited. So much for my heart rate going back to normal. It beat rapidly in anticipation and I felt close to pissing myself as I feared the worst to come.
STEPHEN PARKER: I still get nightmares where I’m at the end of a long hallway. There’s a door on the other end and it opens. I see that figure, that face, the one that had now appeared in the wide doorway of the barn. It was as close a look at him as I’d been able to get so far. His eyes were dark dead pits in the middle of an expressionless face. I could see now that he wore some type of mask over the top half of his face. His head was sleek and without hair. There were several bleeding holes scattered around his torso, blood oozing from them and not appearing to slow him down in any capacity. In his hands he wielded a T-post. Whether it was the same one he had used before or another I don’t know. It looked wet. Something dripped from its sharp edge.
DAVID NEAL: We arrived on the scene after the explosion. In fact, several of the deputies en route to the area heard it.
STEPHEN PARKER: That motherfucker looked up at me. The tractor roared to life, the diesel engine revving, the gears grinded as the clutch was popped and it lurched forward. It had a front end loader on its front-- basically like this bulldozer kind of thing. It slammed into Big Baby. He didn’t fall underneath it, he withstood the blow, caught it right in his arms and managed to push back on his feet against it. The engine struggled and the throttle roared and Nick sat behind the wheel.
Big Baby managed to skitter back a few feet, but the tractor kept coming for him and soon they both were well out of the barn. Nick maneuvered the levers and tilted the front end loader’s bucket to keep Big Baby on his heels. I slid down the ladder and ducked my head out of the barn’s doorway to watch the outcome.
The last steps took place in a matter of fast forward, before I could truly comprehend what was going on. Big Baby’s arms were bloody and he hung onto the bucket of the front end loader, attempting to pull himself up. His feet hung above the ground. It seemed his goal was climb onto the arms and leap at Nick if he had the chance.
He wasn’t quick enough.
Nick shifted gears and the tractor revved forward to a utility line pole to the left of the house. Sitting next to that pole was the shiny silver of a propane tank, one of those that are shaped like a pill and the size of a house.
I yelled for Nick to look out, yelled for him to jump off, as if gunning straight for that tank hadn’t been his plan all along. As if he didn’t know the stakes.
As if he didn’t know exactly what he was doing.
There was the collision of metal on a body and then the sound of grinding metal as the corner of the bucket pierced the tank. The gas hissed as it escaped and I saw Nick stand up in his seat and fish around in his pocket. He was pretty far away, but I could make out his hand movements as a flame appeared in his hand, the flame from a Zippo lighter.
JOEY KESSLER: I heard that explosion and I thought, “what now?”
IRENE MYRTLE, LOCAL RESIDENT: I thought the good Lord was coming down to get us. The rapture y’know?
TERESA RUSSEL, 911 OPERATOR: The calls started coming in left and right, first the injuries and then about the explosion and all in this particular part of the county. It was mayhem for a while. Busiest night I ever worked.
EDDIE DUNN: LOCAL RESIDENT, UNEMPLOYED: I thought it was them damn terrorists, myself. Heard they might try and strike a little place like the Somerset area on account of all our oil wells and the like. Had even seen some A-rabs at the truck stop recently.
STEPHEN PARKER: If this is a feel-good action movie, if I’m the one writing the screenplay, then Nick turns his back right as he throws the lighter. He does a running leap off the back of the tractor just as the propane tank explodes. The fireball propels him forward, singing the back of his shirt and head and that’s it. He lands in the grass and I run to him and I say, “Looks like you got out just in the Nick of time.” We both laugh and embrace. End scene.
But that’s not what happened no matter how much I look back and try and rewrite it in my mind. What happened was he managed to do a half turn before the tank exploded and the flames engulfed him.
Through the smoldering rubble and debris I found his body and rolled him over and it was clear that there would be no happy ending for us. No final words. Just an embrace followed by me scrambling into the house, finding a phone, dialing 911.
That was it.
SOMERSET REGISTER 10/xx/2003, FRONT PAGE: MULTIPLE VICTIMS IN KILLING SPREE SATURDAY NIGHT, SUSPECT DECEASED AT SCENE, TEENAGER REMAINS IN CRITICAL CONDITION
____________________________________________________________
AFTERMATH
SKYE BRIGGS: What we went through only made me stronger. I hate that it happened and I’m not trying to say I’m ultimately glad that it happened or anything like that. I guess what I’m saying is that after you go through something so terrible, it really puts everything into perspective y’know? All your insecurities, all your fears--surviving something like that, they’re nothing in comparison. Besides, I’m only living the life that I think Hailey would want me to. My new confidence or whatever is a testament to her. I mean if you look at what she’s gone through, it’s the least I could do. I think she’s proud of me, but I’m even more proud of her. I could only hope to be fifteen percent of what she is and has always been.
HAILEY ADAMS: That’s something I speak about at my engagements. How even still after all this time and what I’ve remade myself into, there’s still people that speak from the perspective that I’ve had my life ruined or whatever. I don’t look at it that way. Were there times I got down about what I had lost?
Hell yeah. I got pretty low on several occasions. In the end I looked at it as my life was headed in one direction and then this happened and it swerved to this other direction.
The extent of Hailey Adams’s injuries was significant. She was medflighted to the University Hospital, the state’s only Level One trauma center, where she underwent an eight hour surgery. In the end she was left with a spinal cord injury that left her with paraplegia.
Her disability was only the beginning of her journey, however. After rehabilitation and high school graduation she attended college and received her teaching certificate where she became a cheer coach and special education teacher for a number of years. She would later become an advocate for those with disabilities and became quite active on the motivational speech circuit. She has signed a book deal with Simon and Schuster for the publication of her memoir.
She is married and has two children.
STEPHEN PARKER: Back when I would get those emails from Dylan about him and Nick hanging out and I would get this uncomfortable feeling I didn’t quite understand. Later, I would be able to put a name to that feeling: jealousy.
I wished it was me hanging out with Nick instead of him, sweating in that barn and playing guitar, his jawline and the look in his eyes while he played and got lost in the music. I would imagine it would get hot and there and we would have to take off our shirts and then who knows what would happen. It was a fantasy I returned to often and it left me feeling guilty and ashamed. I tried to suppress it.
I didn’t come out for many years after. I grew up going to church and church camps and all that stuff and I guess I suppressed a lot of stuff, y’know? Grew up hearing the word “f-g” and “fxxgot” tossed around. There was lots of denial and confusion. For the longest time, I thought that the death of Nick and everything we’d been through was a punishment for being gay.
SKYE BRIGGS: Steve and I? Yeah, we ended up dating for a while. A long while actually. Going through that event together really made us closer. How could it not? We would go visit Hailey at the hospital together. We would recommend music to each other. My dad, he would teach Steve guitar. He was my date to Junior Prom and we even went to Senior Prom together as friends.
If you had told me before that night all of this, it would’ve seemed like a dream come true. After a while though I realized something was up. I had no qualms or hang ups about sex before marriage and when we got to that point in the relationship I noticed something was...off. Like he wasn’t totally into me that way? I mean I tried to convince myself otherwise and he would swear up and down that he was, but there was a drunken night in his den our senior year when we went out to the alley to look up at the night sky and he broke down and confessed.
STEPHEN PARKER: I could trust Skye. It was finally time for me to tell someone, but I asked her to keep it secret. We continued to fake it for a while and eventually broke up. We still keep in touch pretty regularly, although it’s been hard in recent years.
Skye Briggs became the front woman to an alternative rock band. They performed at Vans Warped Tour, SXSW, and ACL Music Festival among others over the years. They had several mild crossover hits including songs featured in various soundtracks for television and movies that you have most likely heard.
She is twice divorced and has a daughter and when not parenting she can be found working on her solo musical career. Her debut solo album is set to release next year.
BOB SCHROEDER, LOCAL HISTORIAN: Why does such a tale captivate us? It is a classic tale with much in common with the slasher genre of films from the horror section of the video rental store. There are teens to be sacrificed, bodies to be collected, scores to be paid, and lessons to be learned. Except in this tale, I’m not sure that there is a moral or lesson to be learned.
STEPHEN PARKER: A moral? A lesson to be learned? Stay home, I guess. Wrap yourself up in bubble wrap and never go outside.
BOB SCHROEDER: Teenagers as a cautionary tale is an old concept. They are the bridges to adulthood, yet we’ve used them over the years for various ends. They are young and dumb and full of come. Or is it piss and vinegar? I can’t remember.
They are nine foot tall and bullet-proof. Or so they think. We use this to our advantage, get them to join our wars and fight for us. They will storm that hill without a second thought and we like them for that. The thirty year old might have second thoughts about it.
We give them 2 ton hunks of steel, death machines capable of reaching speeds of 120 MPH. We give them cell phones to check in with us, knowing full well that they are distracting and likely to increase the chance of a wreck. We cross our fingers and hope for the best.
We send them to school with bullet-proof backpacks and contingency plans for school shooters. We haven’t figured out a better solution.
Our teens are lambs to the slaughter. Always have been. (shrugs shoulders) Eh, but most of them make it out ok.
STEPHEN PARKER: I mentioned earlier that I had found myself back in Somerset years down the road. I mentioned that it brought the emotions roaring back. I found myself in the park and I got out and it was mostly empty, but I was under this row of giant sycamore trees, and I walked around a little until it hit me like a sledgehammer to the gut.
I just broke down and wept. I wept for my past. I wept for Nick and Dylan. I wept for what could’ve been.
BOB SCHROEDER: The other thing about slashers is that they often feature the common trope of the killer getting away. The killer is out there, not quite dead, waiting to return again.
STATE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION NOTES, OCT 2003: A body from the state medical examiner’s office has been reported missing. The body of the John Doe believed to be responsible for the numerous deaths in Somerset has vanished from the lab site. If you have any information regarding this please contact us at (XXX) XXX-XXXX.
STEPHEN PARKER: I mentioned before about pivotal moments and I’ve thought of another. It’s one that I keep coming back to, a moment outside of all of the trauma. Something warm. Something comforting. In spite of everything that happened, I’m glad that I have this.
Let me set the scene. We’re heading out to Buster’s and we’re all a little giddy. Dylan, he says, “Look at us, just a regular bunch of Breakfast Club motherfuckers up in here.”
HAILEY: Oh really? Why’s that?
DYLAN: It’s an unlikely crew is all I’m saying.
HAILEY: Oh, because I thought you were saying its like all of us fit into a bunch of cliched roles. Are you saying that I’m the cheerleader and Nick’s the jock? What does that make Stephen and Skye?
NICK: I ain’t no jock.
SKYE: Wait, are you saying I’m the weird girl?
STEPHEN: No way in hell you’re the rebel, Nick. You’re the geeky dude.
DYLAN: Look, can we just drop it? How about we’re the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Justice League or something?
Just then, Nick starts to sing the chorus of that song from the movie, “Hey! Hey! Hey! Don’t you...forget about me…” And before you know it it was like a goddamn singalong, the whole truck singing along.
So this was another pivotal moment, for we were all happy and it was like this high we would continue to pursue so that the night didn’t have to end.
Now I’m not a journalist or writer or anything, but if I was writing this thing, that’s where I’d end it.
END

Stephen Parker drifted for a few years after high school. He eventually pursued a career in medicine. He lives in California.

2020.10.18 03:44 heyitsthatoneguy99 But, It Was Just a Dream, Right?

Dear gods, this has been a long week already, and its only Tuesday. The remainder looks like it’s going to be long, too, so I figure that I need a way to decompress. My roommate, Paul, I had barely arrived at a concert that was in the area when I met her. It wasn’t a big-name band or anything like that. This was just a shitty bar band that played their way through the tri-county area. It feels like they changed their name every few months or so. Either they couldn’t decide on anything, or they were trying to trick people into coming to see them once we all got used to their name and stopped going to the bars they were playing in. Anyway, I’m getting off-topic.
I met a woman there. Not like anyone I had ever met before. No shit, she looked EXACTLY like Christina Ricci. She wasn't, of course, but she LOOKED exactly like her. We got to talking and said her name was Sarah. I was half expecting her to say her name was Christina. I didn’t bring up the resemblance because I was certain that she heard that from so many other people, and I didn’t want our conversation to stop before it had the chance to begin. After a while, we were getting lost in conversation, and not even really paying attention to the show that we had both come to see. Surprisingly, to me, at least, she asked me if I’d go out on a date with her the following night, and I gladly accepted.
Then I woke up. I didn’t think much of it. I just looked around the room, maybe just a pinch disappointed at the thought of not having a date with someone that looks exactly like a beautiful celebrity, but muttered “Well, THAT was weird,” to myself, and then drifted back off to sleep. I was right back in the dream, in an apartment that was apparently mine, on the night after the show, and I was just finishing up getting ready for the date that I was telling Paul about. I got a call from her saying she was outside waiting in her car.
When I walked out, there was a long, black stretch limo there waiting for me; her mischievous smiling face looking at me through the back window as she motioned me to get in the other side as she winked and rolled up her window. I thought to myself that this was maybe a little bit of overkill for a first date, but as a friend of mine likes to say, “There’s no kill like overkill!” I got in, ready for a night of pretty much anything she had planned for us. I waved a quick goodbye to Paul, and was out the door.
I had barely gotten in the limo and closed the door when it started to move, but I couldn’t see Sarah anywhere in the back of the limo with me. I thought she had snuck out of the other side to prank me or something, but then the car started to move. Suddenly, she practically appeared out of thin air right next to me, wide-eyes with a crazy look on her face, and a grin that seemed almost impossibly big. She was wearing a very bright red long-haired wig that was not on her moments before. She was wearing a tightly fitting, short, silver dress that changed color with the lights as they hit it, almost like a disco ball in a club. She slid to the seat that was behind the driver and rolled up the tinted divider window, never breaking eye contact with me; not even blinking, really, and never wavering that gigantic smile that I was now mentally comparing to the Cheshire Cat from Alice In Wonderland.
As soon as the divider window hit the top, she rolled it back down. The driver was… GONE, but we were still moving. Where… where the hell did the driver go?? I could see the street lights and pedestrians through the front windows. She rolled it up again, still never breaking eye contact, blinking, or losing that smile, then back down, and there was… nothing. I know what you’re thinking; that maybe everything had gone back to normal and there was nothing extraordinary happening, but I MEAN NOTHING. Just a black void where the world should be outside of the car.
This… this wasn’t possible. It was like we weren’t even on Earth anymore; I was looking at the vast expanse of space. Then what seemed like millions of stars filled the scene in the windows, and it looked like we were moving fast; like a spaceship moving at a quantum speed in a bad science fiction movie, but I felt as though we were still moving at a normal speed, like we were just driving on a smooth road still. At this point, my real-life defense mechanism of sarcasm stepped in, and all I could do was let out a nervous laugh and before I could even react, my roommate was sitting to my right on another seat, looking like he was enjoying the ride. I didn’t recognize him in the dream, though. He was just a random person that was there. I looked at him and, in a VERY nervous voice said “I’m in trouble,” my shaky tone all but literally begging for help.
Then he just disappeared; he wasn't there anymore, and I was alone with the wig-wearing-crazy-eyed celebrity look-alike giving me another smile that I felt like it should have made me more nervous, but it was oddly calming. It was the kind of smile that made me curious and terrified all at once, but still a little more curious than I’d like to admit to. She was sitting next to me now, giggling a little bit, then draped her hand over my shoulder and leaned in VERY close and whispered right in my ear “We are going to have SO much fun tonight!”
I woke up for the second time, breathing heavy as if I had been anxiously holding my breath for too long. I lifted my head off the pillow and propped myself up on my arms and looked around the room for a moment, taking in my surroundings. I told myself it was just a dream, then laid my head back down and went back to sleep.
I fell RIGHT back into the dream, but at a different point. I was standing in her kitchen, leaning against the counter having a glass of water. She was in front of me talking, looking completely normal; Black hair, about shoulder length, wearing a loose-fitting white sweater and blue jeans. leaning against the island in the middle of the kitchen. It was clearly a new home and was pretty big. She left the room, and for some reason, and when she hadn’t returned a few minutes later, I went to look for her. I went around the corner into the living room, and she was standing in front of the TV, which was turned on but had a static-filled screen from a lack of signal, which I noted was odd since it was a modern flat-panel TV and those just go to a blank blue or black screen instead of the old-style tube TVs with static, but she was just a few feet in front of me, completely nude, body frail, blue and black veins were visible as though they were just barely underneath the skin and moving closer to the surface.
She looked emaciated, with her head cocked to her right side; much more fragile and skinnier than she was just moments before. Her skin was pale, almost gray. Her eyes were completely white, no retina, pupil... nothing that I could see. Just white with a few of those little red veins we all have around the edges. Mouth hanging slightly agape and drooling, with a slight gurgling noise every time she exhaled.
I didn’t know how to react to what was in front of me. I mean, our date had been weird, sure, but THIS was beyond that. I was now terrified. Part of me wanted to run, screaming, but I couldn’t. I was completely petrified by the sight that was now before me. The other part of me wanted to check on her to see if she was okay, but considering how the night had been going up to this point, I knew that she was FAR from “okay.” I said her name more than once, eventually yelling it trying to get her attention or snap her out of it, but she just stood there, ever so slightly swaying from side to side staring blankly in my direction.
I started backing into the kitchen against the counter where I had come from and she slowly walked forward toward me with a limp, zombie-like walk, one arm outstretched toward me. She was drooling, head still cocked to her right. I put my hand out and grabbed her out-stretched arm and locked my arm. She was still trying to walk forward, but just the pressure of me locking my arm out kept her from moving any closer. Then she raised her left leg and started making a kicking motion at me, but it didn't have any force behind it. It was almost more like an exaggerated leg twitch that happened to be in my direction, but over and over again. I started yelling, partially to try and get her attention, but mostly out of fear. “What the hell is happening??? HELP!! PLEASE SNAP OUT OF IT!!!”
And then I woke up again. I was in a cold sweat and frantically looking around the room to make sure that she hadn’t somehow followed me out of the dream, as ridiculous as that sounded. I rolled over and propped myself up on my arm, uncovering myself to let my fan cool me down and wake me up a little bit. I was so tired that I could barely keep my eyes open, but I didn’t want to risk going back into that dream again. It had been escalating in terror every time I fell back asleep and found myself back in it, and I did NOT want to find out what it had in store for me if it happened again. I got up and walked around the apartment for a moment, stopping to get a drink in the kitchen, then to the bathroom, figuring that I was giving myself plenty of time to get awake enough to detach myself from the thread of that dream, or nightmare, or… whatever the hell it was.
I made my way back to bed, and after a few minutes of messing around with a game on my phone to distract myself, I fell back asleep.
At this point, I KNEW I was dreaming, but it felt so real that I wasn’t entirely sure that I hadn’t been just transported to some Silent Hill-like hell dimension. I was there again. Right back in that goddamned dream. We were still in her house, but in a large, dark room. I think it was her bedroom. The decor was very old-style Gothic, with a lot of black and deep reds. A large four-post bed was centered on a wall. It was hand-carved and very elaborate, with fabrics made from satin for the curtains of the large canopy. They were black on one side and had a reflective dark purple on the other, with black fabric spider webs on the purple side. The pillows and comforter on the bed followed the same pattern, but were black on one side with a dark reflective red on the other, and the same black spiderweb design on the red side.
Sarah was sitting in a large hand-carved wooden chair with felt padding on the seat and back, looking scared, but otherwise normal again. Her look said that she had been told or made to sit there, and she was scared to talk or move. She appeared to be almost as confused by everything as I was at this point. She was wearing a plain pair of blue jeans with a thick, baggy white wool sweater. Sitting on the far end of the bed, slightly angled away from her was a woman who could have passed for an older sister or being her mother that just started at a young age. She was wearing a long black and red feathered skirt, with a black corset top with bare shoulders, but feathers around the tops of the arms. She glanced in Sarah’s direction and then over to me, smiling a confident, knowing smile.
I couldn’t tell if this was something to be afraid of or not, but with the way everything had been going, I was more than willing to bet that it was.
Sarah sheepishly asked, with her voice frail and breaking out of fear, "Who are you and what does it have to do with me?" The woman smiled at me without looking at her. She tilted her head down, and her face went all the way down to her chest, then came back out and she started tilting her head backwards. She was tilting her head impossibly far back. So far back that I thought her neck would surely snap at that kind of angle. I heard the sound of flesh splitting apart and bone separating. Her head was… I mean… Jesus CHRIST, what the fuck was it doing?? Her head was going INTO her back where the flesh and bone had begun splitting apart. I didn’t want to watch, but I was completely unable to look away. She was still smiling the whole time. While this head was going into her back, another was emerging from her front.
Fuck… I was so fixated on what was happening at her back that I hadn’t noticed that the front of her chest was splitting apart the same way the back was, and a second head was coming out of her chest. It matched the pace of the original, moving toward her shoulders where it slowly came to a rest; right where a normal head would be sitting. I couldn’t believe at this point that I had even had the word “normal” run through my thoughts. This was so far beyond the realm of normal that “fucked up” doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what this was.
She looked similar to the first; the same general facial structure with high cheek bones, dark, wild eyes, and an almost identical confidence in her smile. She used her hands to adjust her head and neck into position, then fluffed her wavy black shoulder-length hair. She was slowly and confidently getting her hair and make-up fixed without the use of a mirror but it all looked perfect and expertly applied. Black lipstick on her upper lip, and dark red on the lower with purple eyeliner. Not a single hair or speck of makeup was out of place. While she was doing this, I could hear the sound of flesh and boned moving, re-sealing the split in her chest and back after the first head that I saw finished going into her back.
It was like some grotesque fidget spinner with heads on each point. I looked at Sarah and she had her knees up to her chest, arms wrapped around her legs, and was rocking back and forth trying to think of how to even begin to process what the fuck was happening in front of us.
She couldn’t, and for the first time that night, I was in the same mental boat that she was in; terrified, curious, wanting to run away screaming at the top of our lungs in search of help, but who would believe us when we told them what was happening? They’d either think that we were pulling some kind of horrible prank, or we’d be shipped off to an insane asylum, which I admit was sounding more and more like the sanest option for this night.
After the woman on the bed finished adjusting her new head, she turned to us, smiled a perfect smile that made us shiver all the way down to our core, and in an English accent said "DARLING, use your imagination! You should know by NOW." And then let that same smile return to her face.
I looked in the mirror behind her and it was like nothing I had ever seen before in even the goriest of horror films. The back of the corset was open, and I could see the front was open as well, her back and chest both very broad. The skin looked very thick and had a slit cut right down the middle, poorly being sewn together with a single thick leather thread that was either moving by itself or being worked by invisible hands. Her skin was… it was moving. It looked as though there were more faces, more heads pushing against the thick skin trying to make their way out, but weren’t at that moment able to. I could see the same movement under her corset now. It was a constant sea of movement, with god only knows how many faces underneath.
Then it suddenly hit me like a freight train... This woman on the bed WAS Sarah, but a different version of her. I was somehow able to see them both as two separate people. The imprints of the faces were her different identities trying to make their way out, but only one at a time could do it, and they were trying to claw and climb over each other, so they could come out.
Sarah had apparently just reached the same conclusion that I had. She had a shocked look and said "Oh my god... she’s…she’s ME. I’m HER. But HOW??" I was surprised she could say anything at this point. She almost looked RELIEVED in a way, like everything that had been happening to this point finally had an explanation. She stood from the chair and was slowly walking toward this other version of herself. She had raised her arm to take the other’s already outstretched hand, and as everything started fading around me, the woman on the bed said “welcome back home, darling,” and everything went black.
Complete and total black. I couldn’t see a thing, but it felt like I was moving through a tunnel and light slowly started to creep in as I opened my eyes. I was lying in bed. I had woken up, but not with a jolt as I had the other times. I sat up, looking around my room to make sure that I was actually there. I pinched my arm to make sure I wasn’t still dreaming, but even with the pain test I wasn’t entirely sure. I checked my phone and I still had half an hour before my alarm was supposed to go off, but there was no way in hell I was going back to sleep after that. I wasn’t risking going back in and seeing if it would get any worse.
I told Paul about the dream after he got up, not sparing any of the gory details. He is a full-time psychology student, and said that the woman in my dream was a perfect representation of the inner workings of a mind with Dissociative Identity Disorder. Or, at least as perfect of a description as someone without that disorder can come up with. I left it at that and went about my day. I went to work, Paul went to class, and I was just hoping that the whole work day would be enough time to completely separate from that dream so I wouldn’t have to go through another evolution of personalities.
That night I was just finishing up with making dinner and as Paul and I sat down to eat, my phone rang. I didn’t recognize the number, but for some reason answered anyway, which I don’t normally do. I went pale. Paul saw my face and asked me what was wrong. I stood up from the table so fast I nearly knocked my chair over as I scrambled through the living room and looked through the blinds of one of the front windows. There was a black stretch limo out front. I audibly gasped and had to hold the door frame to steady myself because my legs grew weak.
An all-too-familiar voice on the phone said “Hey there, tiger. I had SO much fun on our date last night.” She giggled mischievously as she continued. It sounded like there was more than one of her speaking now; like there were dozens of her talking all at once! “I can’t WAIT to show you what I have in store for tonight.”

(#) Info

2020.10.16 23:33 Zepanda66 When does Doctor Strange 2 actually starts filming? Deadline says they start filming in May. But Cumberbatch says October/November?

Raimi replaces original director Scott Derrickson, who departed the project in January due to creative differences. Derrickson remains as an executive producer. Raimi, meanwhile, will need to get up to speed before the film’s scheduled production start date in May.
https://deadline.com/2020/10/doctor-strange-2-baby-sitters-club-xochitl-gomez-benedict-cumberbatch-1234598621/
But then there was this quote from Cumberbatch about 2 weeks ago saying OctobeNovember. https://twitter.com/strangeavengers/status/1311641535482535936?s=21
Deadline then also said he would film his Spider-Man 3 scenes before Doctor Strange 2. https://twitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1314659547777314822?s=20
And then Charles Murphy also said November.
https://www.murphysmultiverse.com/exclusive-doctor-strange-sequel-set-to-film-in-novembe
So which is it? I'm guessing he does Spider-Man first then goes into Doctor Strange. His role in Spider-Man is probably small. Maybe 3/4 weeks of filming max?

2020.10.16 17:29 LongLiveNudeFlesh Deserted is a reality show that never aired. And now that I know that my life is falling apart. Part 2 of 2.

Part 1
I didn't know what to do. I was wracked with terror. My body felt like it was imploding upon itself, a breathing dying star.
Someone had been in my home. Someone had been watching me. Do you know the feeling of terror that comes with being watched? It's hardwired into the back of our brains. It's predator and prey; eat or be eaten. It's the most primal nerve and mine was left to the air, raw and burning.
And I didn't know why. Not really anyways.
I took a picture of the paper left for me, to document it. I didn't want to see it disappear, I wanted proof that I wasn't as nervous as I seemed. Or that if I was nervous, I had a damn good reason to be. I called the cops, again.
They were fast, of course. They always are, but when they got there, they were little more than curious about my scripted life.
"But nothing else out of place?"
"Well, no."
"And this was on the coffee table?"
"Anyone else have access to your home?"
"No."
"Doors were locked?"
"Well, like I said—"
"Right, right. Backdoor is usually unlocked, got it."
They took their notes and nodded along, empathetic to a fault—the likely result of a weekend course. They searched the house. They bagged the note.
"We'll keep a patrol car in the area tonight," one said. "Call if you see anything strange. And make sure to lock both your doors tonight."
I nodded, as if I hadn't thought of that. And then, I was alone again. I looked at the clock. It'd been five minutes, passed in a breath.
The house felt alien to me. Not my house, I had to remind myself, my home—it felt so utterly foreign. It was a perverse representation of myself, of my sense and belief. Everything felt like it was moved two inches to the right, then two inches back again, all while I wasn't looking. Does that make sense? It had the inescapable feeling that everything had been picked up and put down with surgical precision. There was the distinct feeling of the other, everywhere. And that's when I decided to watch the tape again. Why?
Because, I had the feeling that if everything had been touched, so had the tape. It was a comfort food, in the end. It was dull, dated—it was like a window into a simpler time. And now, even without ever seeing the show, I knew I wanted to immerse myself in it, as a means to escape. So, I went to my stock room. I smelled the T-shirt. I reminded myself that I was about to improve my life. I took the VHS tape out of its sleeve. I looked at its cover.
I dropped it to the carpet.
I screamed; I thrashed about as if I were covered in ants; I grabbed my keys; I got in my car. And I drove like a motherfucker.
FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY had been crossed out with black sharpie, replaced with two crude drawings: a ball of wriggling bodies, and a man with one arm.
It meant nothing to me. How could it? But I felt my insides drop like I was on a roller coaster and I knew the only thing I could do was leave.
Burn it to the ground, I thought.
Raze the fucking building.
Fuck everything I've ever earned. Fuck it to death.
And there I was: a dark, lonely highway; driving to nowhere; stars bright above me. Two headlights behind me.
My foot was pressing down on the gas. I was hurtling forward. I was buzzing through the future. I was slashing through time. The lights behind me got brighter and I realized that whoever was behind me was accelerating too. The road was curving, the sky was so beautiful, I couldn't think straight. I just wanted to get away. I felt like a mare being saddled. I was bucking. I was huffing. I was ready to put a hoof through a cowboy’s face. So, I watched the needle climb. I watched the trees pass beside me. I saw road markers become blurs. Then, I did something really stupid.
I turned off my headlights.
I had it in my head that the only way to escape my pursuer was to become invisible. I didn't think that the car behind me could still see me, with his own headlights. I wasn't thinking at all. I was making desperate moves. I also decided I would not brake. I was determined to be invisible, to not let him see anything of my vehicle. No red lights. Just speed, dangerous speed.
I was looking for an exit. Somewhere I could veer off, suddenly, disappear into the black. Who was I? What was I doing? Who does this?
But the car behind me, just two yellow unblinking eyes, kept following me. And I was more desperate and afraid than I'd ever been.
I squinted into the dark, hoping my pursuers lights would light the reflective lettering on a sign. My eyes were adjusting. I was feeling stupid, afraid of my own decisions. I'd been catching the curves by luck and the faint glow of the headlights in front of me. This was roulette. This was stupid—
My eyes turned to slits.
Exit 1 mile.
I let out a yell, a battle cry. The yellow eyes behind me were closing in, they were coming but soon, I could escape, if I could just slowly veer—
BAM!
I let go of the wheel.
I closed my eyes.
I started to pray.
That's when I left the road.
That's when I was flying through the air.
That's when I felt my body go weightless.
The airbag went off, my head bounced back and forth between my seat and this new cushion that hid so secretly in my car. And behind me, for a brief moment, I saw a car pass, and keep passing.
I was dizzy. My head hurt. I looked up at the stars through my buckled windshield. Lines of icy cracks divided the stars from the blackness between them. I couldn't think to do much else but cry.
I unbuckled myself and tried to remember if my car was a newer model or not. I could remember talking to the salesperson, about the features. I was between two models. Which one had the automatic reporting? As I fell to the cool grass, I really hoped I didn't cheap out.
I was in a stretcher. Paramedics were taking my vitals. They were testing my eyesight. They were asking how I was feeling.
I looked up at them with blurry eyes and asked if I was safe.
"Just stay with us," they said.
"Where else can I go?"
I blinked and I was in a hospital and my head was throbbing. It was like a sledgehammer had been taken to my skull. There were cuts on my hand. I couldn't remember anything, not at first. But they were in and out, doing tests. They said it'd come back to me.
A man came to visit me. Early forties, a police officer. He introduced himself as Matt. No last name, just Matt. His eyes were soft and kind and he asked me questions about how I was feeling. If I remembered what happened. If I'd be willing to do down to the station and make a report.
"Sure," I said. "Sure."
And then, I blinked again, and another day had gone by. I was out of the gown and into the slippery warm embrace of oxycontin. I felt a dull soreness throughout my body, but otherwise, I was myself. I asked for a police escort to check my home before going back. They told me I'd been through a lot, like that was an answer.
On the way there, I tried to let my reality settle. I tried to remember if they said there'd be lasting damage. I knew that'd be something that'd take getting used to. That permanent brain damage would be something real, solid, and worth mourning. But they didn't give me anything too concrete. They just kept saying how lucky I was, while repeating the fact that I had no intoxicants in my system—as if I had gamed them somehow.
The house, the home, looked just as it did when I left it nights before. As per reflex, I reached for my phone. But, of course, there was no phone. It'd been lost in the crash. Or maybe the morning dew killed it and they just wanted me to stop thinking about it. Easier to just say it was lost.
The police shined their flashlights in and out of windows. I felt so tired. So absolutely tired. They paused for only a moment.
"Was that tape here when you left?"
My mind wasn't working like it used to. It took me a minute. Finally, I said, "Yes, sorry. That was there. I did that. I dropped it."
I didn't even bother to tell them why I dropped it. I didn't even think to consider it. When they left, I was more than happy to just be home. To be able to lay on my own couch, to enjoy the fog of opiates as it sent my mind crawling at a turtle's pace. It was nice. It was freeing. I felt more relaxed than I had in years, and all it took was a car accident.
In two hours, I could take another one. And then in another six, another. I began to plan my day into my evening when I drifted off into a blissful sleep.
When I awoke, I thought it was because I heard a creak.
But creaks happen all the time.
And I was too dreamy to be in danger. There was nothing in the house. It was a fact that had been proven to me time and time again. I looked at the clock and shrugged to myself. Time for my medicine, I thought, smiling.
With the pills in my system, I realized I was really not afraid of anything anymore. Or at least, the anxiety had been dulled to such a degree that I was feeling something akin to courage. So, I stood up. I walked around. I talked to myself. I made relaxed, shuffling motions to check room after room after room. There was no one, of course. I didn't freak out once. Not even when I realized the back door was still unlocked. I just told myself that I need to be better at that, and I moved on. I was so proud of myself. I wasn't dwelling. I was thriving.
And then I came across that video and I felt like there was tiny whistling light (yellow eyes) cutting through the fog. Like a laser, so exacting and vibrant and hot that no amount of sensory dampening could deny it its shine. I reached down and picked the tape up. I felt something odd. An unsettlement. A primordial feeling that something was not right. But, this feeling was in a chemical tug of war. As soon as it would come, it would wash away. It was like a dream, in that regard. So vivid in one moment, so lost in another.
But, I was connecting the dots. The VHS player was still set up. The tape was in my hand. The drawings on the tape sent a weak quake through my innards, but it was merely a tremor. More of an echo of fear than fear itself.
And because I was high, because I was curious, because I was so desperate to put this whole mess behind me. I put the tape in the VCR and sat back on my couch, determined to be ironic and bemused.
When the screen flickered to life, I felt a sort of confidence. A belief in reality. That things moved two inches and moved back two inches were not a threat, that they might as well have not been moved at all.
But when the video started, something was different.
There was the Deserted logo, of course. The same early-millennium graphic design, the same strange seal that hinted at its sinister game. But then, it cut out in a familiar way.
Static bars appeared at the tops and bottoms of the screen, and suddenly the screen came to life with vibrant movement. Daytime, handheld footage. A supermarket parking lot. A close zoom. Me.
I felt as if I'd been pushed to the back of the couch with gravity itself.
The Deserted tape. It'd been recorded over.
And there I was, shopping.
There I was, driving.
There I was, standing on my lawn, the police on the phone.
I held my hands over my mouth as the fog lifted and I saw myself in the same context as I had seen the contestants: as figureheads, actors, golems. I was an unknown actor, acting through a story I didn't know I was telling.
I don't know how they did it. But there I was, talking to the camera. A smile on my lips.
"It's really not easy," the person, me, on screen said. "But when worst comes to worst, you really just have to push through."
"I found out about Deserted through my business. I'm a collector."
Driving, at night. Frantic. I'm screaming. My hands are shaking—both versions of me—the one on the screen and the one on the couch. I don't know how they got the shot. I don't know how they did it. The camera shakes violently and I see debris hang in midair for only a moment before the whole thing cuts to black.
My body, limp in the grass. Whoever's filming is shining a flashlight on my face. I'm swollen, bruised.
The hospital. They're wheeling me around. There's all this chatter, medical jargon. I'm being rushed.
My stomach is filled with bees. Nothing is right.
Fade to black, fade in. I'm on the hospital cot in a sea foam room. I turn my head and look up to the camera.
"Who are you?" I ask
"Matt," he says. "Just Matt."
I'm scared. I'm shaking. And on the video, I'm coming home. I'm watching the cops search my home. And I turn it off, because I'm afraid it's going to keep going.
It just seems too perfect. Too real.
At the bottom of the screen, my name pops up whenever I talk. I'm lit so well. I come across so knowledgeable, so normal.
But I can't help but feel like something has been stolen from me.
Like it's going to be stolen continuously, forever.
Everything's just too perfect.
The little girl who loved TV grows up to become a collector. It doesn't sound real.
I got up and pressed eject on the VCR. The tape had more time to fill, a lot more time. I stared at the ball of wriggling bodies and the one armed man. I felt as if I'd been moved two inches to the right, and then moved two inches back. That didn't sound real to me. But then again, nothing did.

2020.10.15 15:53 HeyitsyaboyJesus Nebraska 2021 Recruiting Class Review: 10/15/2020

I spent my off time this week taking a hard look at the recruits of this class. I’ve compiled our current commits below and done my own evaluation and what I see in each recruit- the good and the bad. I’ve made determinations on how I think they should be rated and compare that to their 247 rating.
I’m a complete amateur at evaluating recruits and have no experience other than watching film and seeing what the experts take into account and how they rate players. This was an exercise for me and I gave a brief bio about each player. The heights and weights are taken from 247 and from what I’ve seen on film as some of the weights were not up to date. I followed 247’s rating explanations as a guide.
Koby Bretz - Omaha, NE
6’2” – 185lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 50.74 Miles
Profile: 88 247 – 5.6 RivalsHudl
Current Position: S/WR
Recruitment Position: S/Field OLB
Koby Bretz plays for Omaha Westside in Omaha, Nebraska. Last year Westside played Bellevue West for the state title but came up short. This year, they and Bellevue West are again the favorites to play in the state championship. The currently are undefeated sitting at 7-0.
Bretz is a tall, powerful, athletic Safety that shows great speed and angle recognition when coming downhill. While not the strongest looking player, he brings a level of physicality to Westside’s defensive backfield, capable of forcing fumbles on devastating hits. He has highlights of him coming between gaps and through blocks to make tackles. His playmaking highlights at safety much of the time is in run support, but in the games I’ve seen of him this year he has been able to recognize pass plays and make some high caliber PBU’s. At wide receiver he has shown that he can go up and make plays on balls while showing above average straight-line speed (this also shows up in his pursuit as a DB).
Bretz has all the tools to be a great player- of this class, he has one of the highest ceilings. He is someone that will need a year to learn hone his skills as a DB, get stronger and learn the playbook. His frame looks like it can hold another 20-30lbs comfortably- however he will need to work hard to develop himself. I think he starts out as a Safety before moving down to the field OLB. I think he can be a force at this position- he is a gifted tackler. Additionally, if the staff felt like they needed him at ILB, I feel as though he could play this position as well.
Bretz is rated an 88 by 247. I think his rating is appropriate. Depending on how he has looked this year, I could see him rise. Unfortunately, he has not posted any of his gameplay from this year on hudl.
Marques Buford – Oakdale, CT (Cedar Hill, TX)
6’0” – 195lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 1274.04 Miles
Profile: 87 247 – 5.5 RivalsHudl
Current Position: ATH – DB/WR
Recruitment Position: DB
Marques Buford plays for St. Thomas More Preparatory School in Oakdale, CT. Buford is a two-time state champion with his high school team at Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, TX.
Buford is an excellent all-around athlete playing at Defensive Back. He was a top camp performer multiple times in high school. He is agile, he is fast, he has great hands and a solid frame. He can lockdown receivers in man coverage and go up for balls just as well. He has solid play recognition ability and tackling ability. With a year at Prep School, he will be in a similar position to Alante Brown this year and have the opportunity and come in and help the DB room immediately.
When viewing his film, Buford does not have any immediately recognizable deficiencies. He will need to continue working hard and improve his body and skills as a DB.
Buford is rated an 87 by 247. I think Buford is underrated here and should be a borderline 4* at an 89 or 90. He is the best prep school player in the country.
James Carnie – Firth, NE
6’5” – 223lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 19.8 Miles
Profile: 86 247 – 5.6 RivalsHudl
Current Position: TE/OLB
Recruitment Position: TE
James Carnie plays for Norris High School in Firth, Nebraska. His team finished 7-4 last year and currently sits at 6-1 this year.
Carnie is an athletic Tight End/Outside Linebacker standing a 6’5” 223lbs. During the summer Carnie caught eyes with his 32.5” vertical and 4.6- 40 yard dash time at the Warren Academy Showcase. He is regarded by some as the best tight end in the state of Nebraska. This season he has shown that his athleticism in camps shows up on the field. He is a physical blocker and pass rusher, capable of pancaking DBs/LBs and coming off blocks to chase down QBs/RBs. Carnie has been able to show his speed and explosiveness on the field as a tight end, getting free from DBs and winning footraces to the end zone. He has shown ability to go up for 50/50 balls and yank them out of the air. His hands have improved greatly from last season and over the course of this season.
He is a physical player that will need to improve his body position going into contact. Carnie can run through people with poor tackling now, but if he lowers his shoulder, he should be able to blow through better tacklers. He has shown that he can drag tacklers and spin out of waist tackles.
Carnie will need to improve his route running ability, while decent now, he needs better breakouts and crisper routes. He also needs to improve his general elusiveness and on-the-field speed slightly, it appears that not all the speed he gained during the offseason has translated.
When he gets to Nebraska, he must maintain the same mentality he had over the summer and this season, working hard, and proving he can be a great player. He will need to continue to gain lean muscle and explosiveness to be a physical blocker and pass catcheroute runner.
Carnie is rated an 86 by 247. I believe this is the correct range for him to be in, however, I could see him improve to an 88 with his performance over the season and into the playoffs.
Gabe Ervin – Buford, GA
6’0” – 200lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 834.65 Miles
Profile: 84 247 – 5.7 RivalsHudl
Current Position: RB
Recruitment Position: RB
Gabe Ervin plays for Buford High School in Buford Georgia. Buford High School won the 5A state title last year in a come back victory and moved to the 6A division currently sitting at 3-1 this season. While the school is not filled with P5 athletes, the school executes its offense and defense at a high level to control and win games.
Playing at the Running Back position, Ervin is one of the most intriguing prospects of Nebraska’s class. He appears and is capable of being a 3-down back that runs downhill, makes quick cuts and breaks tackles. However, Gabe Ervin’s athleticism is more than being a downhill bruiser and he has shown he can be shifty in the backfield and bounce the football outside the tackles this season. Ervin is capable of getting down the field in a hurry and if a seam opens up in the middle of the field he will hit that seam and take it to the house- he is capable of accelerating and hitting his stride as soon as he reaches the second level.
Ervin’s vision and ability to read defenses is at a high level coming out of high school and I think this is attributed to the system he plays in and the coaching he has received. In game film I have seen him make reads on linebackers and use footwork while he is in the backfield to get LB’s to bite on the wrong gaps- in a particular play that he did this he turned what would have been a 7 or 8 yard gain to a 40 yard gain.
Ervin’s shiftiness is not given enough credit, he has been able to put DB’s and LB’s on skates with his footwork. He has shown that he can put defensive players at bad angles to make tackles and then break them- shedding them off his hips or with a stout stiff arm. His balance is very impressive and has shown great resilience on going down on ankle tackles. Last year Ervin averaged ~6.7 ypc. He seeks to improve his YPC and has done a good job, rushing for 178 yards on 10 carries in his most recent game.
Ervin is rated an 84 by 247. I believe Ervin deserves at least a 4-point bump. Ervin’s running style is akin to what Devine Ozigbo’s looked like his senior season. Strong downfield runner with unexpected elusiveness, but Ervin’s ability to bounce the ball outside the OT’s this season has been his biggest improvement and it has surprised a lot of people- me included. According to “Tracking Football” Ervin scores a 4.6 out of 5.0 on their athleticism scale when looking at his height, weight, and track times. This is considered “exceptional”. If I were to describe Ervin’s running ability and approach to the game in one word it would, “professional”.
Thomas Fidone – Council Bluffs, IA – US Army All American
6’5” – 225lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 54.1 Miles
Profile: 95 247 – 6.0 RivalsHudl
Current Position: TE
Recruitment Position: TE
Thomas Fidone plays for Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He is an Army All American Tight End. Thomas Fidone is the best Tight End in the nation of the 2021 class. He is the best route running and pass catching tight ends I’ve ever seen at the High School level. If you were to look at all the recruits this cycle and ask for the best route runners and pass catchers (RB’s, WR’s, and TE’s included) Fidone would still be at the top of the list. His breakouts are exceptional, his footwork is exceptional, his hands are exceptional. He stands at 6’5 225 and runs a 4.63 – 40-yard dash with a 37” vertical, all of which shows up on the field, winning in foot races to the endzone and showing elusiveness and acceleration.
He is a physical player and wins jump balls and sells his body out to make great catches. He drags defenders and puts them in the dirt with stiff arms. He is a capable and physical blocker. He is an extremely hard worker that wants to be the best.
Fidone is rated a 95 by 247. He has had a fantastic season so far. He has a shot at becoming a 5* player by 247, but I believe much of that decision will come down to how he plays at the All-American Bowl.
Mikai Gbayor – Irvington, NJ
6’2 – 220lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 1172.70 Miles
Profile: 87 247 – 5.6 RivalsHudl
Current Position: ILB
Recruitment Position: ILB
Mikai Gbayor plays for Irvington High School in Irvington, New Jersey. His school lost in the semi-final for the state championship. His team is off to a 2-0 start this season.
Gbayor plays Inside Linebacker and is a physical presence in the center of the field. He has solid play recognition, appears to be a sure tackler and often is a decleator. He has multiple highlights of him destroying RB’s and QB’s. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a ton of hudl film for me to look through. He is best as a run stopper and is fast enough to hit gaps he needs to. He has a long frame and appears to be able to put on a good bit more weight and muscle. His lateral movement needs to improve as does his pass coverage and acceleration. However, I do think he has the athleticism to pull this off- he will need to dedicate himself to the S&C program and to improving technique.
Gbayor is rated an 87 by 247, I think this is a fair assessment. I do think his skill is in the 85-87 range. If he can show this season that he has improved his acceleration, ability to get off blocks and pursue sideline to sideline he will be a force to be reckoned with.
Kamonte Grimes – Naples, FL – US Army All American
6’2” – 205lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 1324.77 Miles
Profile: 88 247 – 5.5 RivalsHudl
Current Position: WDB
Recruitment Position: WR
Kamonte Grimes plays for Palmetto Ridge High School in Naples, Florida. His team went 4-6 overall in 2019, but are off to a 3-0 start this season. He is an Army All American.
Grimes is both a Wide Receiver and Defensive Back at his high school but was recruited as a WR by the Huskers. He spent the offseason becoming a better athlete and really worked on his body. Over the summer he accepted an invitation to play in the Army All American Bowl. Grimes is another unique prospect. The way that he runs makes him look slower and less elusive than he is, but he can create separation and outrun pursuing players. He glides and is a smooth route runner. He can go up for balls and break tackles made with poor angles. He’s a willing blocker. I think the biggest parts of his game he needs to improve upon is his explosiveness and route running.
Grimes is rated an 88 by 247, I find this to be a fair rating. I found the invite to the Army All-American Bowl particularly interesting as I don’t see him as an elite receiver. I think his performance at the AA Bowl will tell us a lot about how good he is.
Heinrich Haarberg – Kearney, NE
6’5” – 185lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 119.43 Miles
Profile: 88 247 – 5.6 RivalsHudl
Current Position: QB
Recruitment Position: QB
Heinrich Haarberg plays for Kearney Catholic in Kearney, Nebraska. His team finished 7-3 last year and currently sits at 5-1 this season.
Haarberg is a tall athletic and raw Quarterback. He has a lot of untapped talent and if he can hone his skills, he can be dangerous. Haarberg makes throwing 50-yard bombs and 20-yard lasers look easy. He’s adept at using his body and hips to generate power on his throws and can make strong throws while on the run and across his body. Haarberg is a boon in the QB run game, an area his team has relied on a lot this season. He can run through tackles and likes to play physically- he lowers his shoulder into contact. If Haarberg gets into the open field he can win footraces, having run a sub 11.0 100m.
Haarberg will need to spend time with Verduzco to improve as a QB, but understands he needs work. I’m not super familiar with looking at and evaluating QB’s, but I can tell he has poor footwork when he drops back in the pocket. If Haarberg spends a lot of time in S&C, he can become a force in the QB run game that no player wants to tackle. I can see him getting up to 235lbs and still retain his speed.
Haarberg is rated an 88 by 247. I think this is an appropriate rating. He has a very high upside and athletic ability, he just needs to develop and harness it.
Shawn Hardy – Kingsland, GA
6’3” – 190lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 1086.47 Miles
Profile: 85 247 – 5.6 RivalsHudl
Current Position: WR
Recruitment Position: WR
Shawn Hardy plays for Camden County High School in Kingsland, Georgia. His team finished 8-3 last year and sits at 4-2 this year.
Hardy is a taller receiver that excels in his ball tracking ability and ability to go up and win 50/50 balls. He has solid speed to take the tops off defenses on go routes with his long stride. He plays a physical game when jumping up for balls and routinely rips the ball from defenders’ hands. He has surprising elusiveness for his size, and it has really come out this season with being able to accelerate around blocks and make strong cuts. While his route running is solid, there is always room to improve. His top end speed, elusiveness and acceleration only need a slight improvement to take him from a good receiver to an elite receiver. He has already improved his acceleration markedly.
Hardy is rated an 85 by 247. I think Hardy is underrated and would consider him our best receiver of the class when looking at this film. He plays against a high level of competition in Georgia 7A football- he finished with the 2nd most receiving yards in his conference and is on pace to surpass his previous years number. I would give Hardy a 2-point bump to an 87, maybe a 3 point bump to an 88.
Randolph Kpai – Sioux Falls, SD
6’3” – 185lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 189.39 Miles
Profile: 90 247 – 5.7 RivalsHudl
Current Position: LB
Recruitment Position: ILB
Randolph Kpai plays for Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD. Last year his team finished 4-7 and is currently 3-4 on the season.
Kpai is one of the most athletic Linebackers in this class and it is apparent on his film. Kpai can accelerate to gaps and lay the wood on whatever offensive player is unlucky enough to get hit by him. He doesn’t have any official testing numbers but just watching his film you can see his ability- he moves at a different speed than everyone else on the field. Kpai could be either a Field OLB or WILL ILB and be effective in either position. He is fast coming off the edge and closing in on ball carriers to make tackles. He strikes blocks hard and can chase RB’s and WR’s laterally. He’s everything you want athletically at LB.
Kpai remains slight at 6’3, but he should be able to add a lot of good weight to his frame and become a dangerous player. He will need time to learn assignments and continue getting experience at one of the toughest positions to learn in football to become a great ILB.
This season Kpai leads his team in Solo (25) and Assisted (35) tackles. He is second on the team in TFL’s with 6.0. He sits at 1.5 sacks this season. Kpai has forced a total of 7 turnovers (4 INT, 3 Fumbles) in the 7 games he has played and has recovered 1 fumble. He has a total of 60 yards after interceptions. He already has two touchdowns scored on turnovers. He has performed very well throughout this season.
Kpai is rated a 90 by 247. I think this is an… adequate rating. Kpai could manage to see a slight bump. A total of 7 forced turnovers and 2 defensive touchdowns to his name, as a linebacker, is nothing short of impressive. I could see Kpai deserving up to a 2-point bump. I think he is one of most overlooked guys of the class by fans.
Henry Lutovsky – Mount Pleasant, IA
6’6 – 330lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 269.38 Miles
Profile: 87 247 – 5.7 RivalsHudl
Current Position: OL
Recruitment Position: OL
Henry Lutovsky plays for Mount Pleasant High School in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Last season his team finished 6-3. They currently sit a 3-3 on the season.
Henry Lutovsky plays on the Offensive Line and has seen himself move around from OG to OT- usually to match up against a defensive line’s best player. In his first game he played against TJ Bollers, a 4* DE committed to Wisconsin. He started slow and had a tendency to over pursue at OT, but as the game went on he got more comfortable and prevented Bollers from making an impact on the game- him finishing with only 3.0 tackles for the night and no TFLs/Sacks (albeit the Panthers schemed away from Bollers).
Lutovsky is strongest at the offensive guard position and maintains good hip position and feet movement while driving through blocks and maintaining pass protection. At this level, his strength is overwhelming and rarely sees himself challenged- regularly pancaking his competition. He stands at 6’6, 330lbs and carries his weight extremely well. There are videos of him moving and jumping that are impressive to see at his size. Lutovsky will continue to need to develop and hone his game, but at his size and with his ability he would easily be a starting OG at the G5 level as a true freshman.
Lutovsky is rated an 87 by 247. I find his rating quite low for his ability. I think the biggest thing holding Lutovsky back from seeing a ratings bump is a lack of activity in camps and not seeing better competition. I really would have liked to see him get an invite to the All-American Bowl and see how he stacks up against elite competition. It’s hard to justify more than a 2 or 3-point bump for Lutovsky because he simply has not played against good enough competition, but I think he deserves to be in the low 4* range at a 89-91. I think I’m able to justify that rise alone in his performance against Bollers, at a position that he normally doesn’t play.
Lutovsky is one of my favorite recruits of this class, he has been a peer recruiter for this cycle and carries one of the most impressive OL frames this cycle. I think Lutovsky will be an elite offensive lineman for this team and an eventual NFL draft pick.
Seth Malcom – Tabor, IA
6’3” – 195lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 54.51 Miles
Profile: 83 247 – 5.6 RivalsHudl
Current Position: LB/RB
Recruitment Position: LB
Seth Malcom plays 8-man football for Freemont-Mills High School in Tabor, Iowa. Last year his team finished 8-2. His team currently sits a 2-1 for the season.
Seth plays both Linebacker and Runningback in 8-man football making him particularly difficult to evaluate. The game between 11-man football and 8-man changes quite a bit, but I can comment on what I’ve seen from him on his junior film in terms of athletic ability.
His best feature is how hard he plays and how tough he is. He plays with a chip on his shoulder like he’s got something to prove. He’s a patient linebacker that will wait for a play to develop before filling his gap- this can be a bit of a double edged sword- but may be a result of 8 man football since the game has a lot more space and one missed tackle can be a touchdown. He’s pretty nimble on his feet and you can see that in his RB highlights.
He needs to improve his lateral speed, general explosiveness, and striking/coming off blocks. He will need to dedicate himself as a student of the game and work closely with Barret Ruud and Luke Reimer (a former 8-man playing in Kansas) to learn 11-man football. He’ll need to spend equal time in the weight room, developing his body. If the staff can develop Malcom into a starter at Nebraska, it will be a major accomplishment.
Malcom is rated an 83 by 247. It is difficult to just a higher rating for Malcom and I found it strange that the staff took his commitment. Malcom has a lot to prove and the odds stacked against him.
Latrelle Neville – Missouri City, TX
6’3” – 195lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 775.97 Miles
Profile: 85 247 – 5.8 RivalsHudl
Current Position: WR
Recruitment Position: WR
Latrelle Neville plays for Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas. Last year his team finished 6-5 and they currently sit at 0-1 this season.
Latrelle is a large Wide Receiver that can operate as a punishing blocker and tremendous leaper. Latrelle can go up for balls and snatch them out of the air. He received high flying evaluations his sophomore year of High School, before dropping off to his current rating.
Neville is difficult to evaluate because the QB play at his High School has been atrocious. His QB barely threw a .500 completion rate and threw half as many picks as TDs. Many times, his QB had to settle for shovel passes. It’s been difficult to evaluate Latrelle for me because there simply isn’t much of him. Between his Sophomore and Junior year there was a drop off in his play due to the QB situation and due to the weight he gained. He played heavier his junior season than he is now in his senior season. In the short film that I’ve seen of his senior season he is faster and more agile than he was last year, his routes look crisper, but it is really hard to say.
Neville is rated an 85 by 247. I think this is an appropriate rating. I don’t think we will know what Neville can do until he gets here or manages to put up more film- but with his QB returning from last year, I don’t think we’ll get to see much.
Patrick Payton – Miami, FL
6’5” – 205lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 1405.29 Miles
Profile: 89 247 – 5.7 RivalsHudl
Current Position: OLB
Recruitment Position: OLB
Patrick Payton plays for Miami Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida. His team has yet to play this season. Last season he played for Miami High School and finished 8-4.
Payton is a lengthy, lean, athletic Outside Linebacker that uses his speed and agility to come off the edge, rush the passer and get into the backfield. Payton understands his reach and can make arm tackles and trip up ball carriers when pursuing at disadvantageous angles. He’s skilled at using his hips and hands to get around blocks. He’s shifty and slippery enough to get linemen to pursue blocks on him and slip around them. He had a productive season last year, accruing 17.5 sacks.
Payton is rated an 89 by 247. I think this is an appropriate rating. His biggest detractor is simply his weight and strength. At 205lbs, he isn’t big enough to compete at the P5 level. If he can gain the weight and strength, he instantly becomes a lot more dangerous.
Teddy Prochazka – Omaha, NE
6’8” – 300lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 50.74 Miles
Profile: 88 247 – 5.9 RivalsHudl
Current Position: OT
Recruitment Position: OT
Teddy Prochazka plays for Elkhorn South High School in Omaha, Nebraska. His team sits a 6-1 this season after finishing 7-4 last season.
Prochazka plays Offensive Tackle. He carries a hulking frame while maintaining a high level of athleticism and mobility. He suffers from the same problem that plagues Lutovsky in that the competition level he is up against is just not good enough to test his skills. I find that Prochazka’s form is not as polished as other offensive tackles, getting out of position and standing upright at times- technique is something that he will need to attack when arriving on campus.
Prochazka is rated an 88 by 247. I think his athleticism and size could justify him seeing a slight bump a point or two- but his technique really holds him back. The coaching he’ll receive from Austin should help him make that leap to the next level.
AJ Rollins – Omaha, NE
6’6” – 220lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 50.74 Miles
Profile: 86 247 – 5.6 RivalsHudl
Current Position: TE/DE
Recruitment Position: TE
AJ Rollins plays for Creighton Preparatory School in Omaha, Nebraska. Last year his team finished 6-4, this year his team currently sits a 6-2.
Rollins carries a sizeable frame with the ability to put on ~25-35 more pounds on comfortably. From his film it appears that he’s quick out of his 3-point stance and that is where he is able to create the most separation and get open. It doesn’t appear that he has top end speed or agility- an area he will have to work on to compete with the other tight ends joining him in this class. When the ball is thrown his way he’s able to jump and extend upwards, high pointing his catches. His physicality as a blocker is a strength and he can stand up against edge rushers and engage LBs downfield.
His breaks on his route running are decent and he’s able to create separation, but like Carnie, needs to improve his route running.
Rollins is rated an 86 by 247. I think this rating is appropriate. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen a lot out of him this season and I don’t think it’s possible he rises. His QB’s play has been poor and has had trouble getting him the ball. It’ll need to be a year where Rollins focuses on his blocking and making the most out of the catches he gets.
Lardarius Webb Jr. – Jackson, MS
5’10” – 170lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 690 Miles
Profile: 84 247 – 5.5 RivalsHudl
Current Position: CB
Recruitment Position: DB
Lardarius Webb Jr. plays for the Jackson Academy in Jackson, Mississippi. He is the son of former Baltimore Raven Lardarius Webb. His team sits 5-3 this season. Last season his team finished 7-5.
Webb is a tough prospect for me to judge adequately, I feel that DB film is tough to evaluate well. From what I’ve seen Webb is a tad undersized and will need play a role similar to what Dicaprio Bootle does where he accelerates and sticks to receivers, getting his hands in where balls are thrown. Webb has a decent number of TFL’s (4) as a CB for the season and seems to be capable of reading when screens are coming and breaking to the receiver. He plays hard and throws as big of hits as he can, but he will need to put work in the S&C room to get where he needs to be- he also needs to improve his tackling form and wrap up appropriately. From his training film, what I find most impressive about him is his hips. Webb has very fluid hips and can whip them around to follow receivers’ changes of direction- however, he will need to increase his speed and acceleration breaking to the ball once his hips are aligned.
Webb is rated an 84 by 247. I think this rating is appropriate and I’m a little surprised it’s not lower. There isn’t much film on him and I wish that DB’s put more film of them covering receivers rather than them going for the big hit or big play, because there isn’t much to learn from those.
Malik Williams – Buford, GA
6’0” – 187lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 834.65 Miles
Profile: 81 247 – 5.6 RivalsHudl
Current Position: DB
Recruitment Position: DB
Malik Williams plays for Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. Buford High School won the 5A state title last year in a comeback victory and moved to the 6A division currently sitting at 3-1 this season. While the school is not filled with P5 athletes, the school executes its offense and defense at a high level to control and win games.
Williams is a rangy, strong corner that jams receivers at the line of scrimmage. He is solid at accelerating and breaking to receivers with the ball, but alike Webb, doesn’t have a lot of film of him operating in coverage. From what I’ve seen he seems to play off receivers slightly too much and allows them just enough room to be hit with a pass. I’m unsure if that is a factor of him not being able to keep up with receivers and being beaten on go routes or if it’s him not understanding how far off the receiver he needs to play. For a CB, however, he is strong and long enough to come off blocks and make tackles- this is an area I think he is particularly strong in. I think he will be capable of playing safety or cornerback at Nebraska.
Williams is rated an 81 by 247. I think this rating seems a tad low, however, alike Webb there isn’t much to justify him seeing a rise. I do think Williams is a better DB than Webb though. If Williams puts up film of him in coverage locking down receivers, making tackles, breaking up passes and making interceptions, I expect to see him rating rise (you can say this with just about any DB- but if your coverage is so good QB’s won’t throw the ball to your area, you need to show that). He plays for a great team in one of the larger classes in Georgia. You don’t start on a championship team in Georgia without being a good player.
Branson Yager – Grantsville, UT
6’7” – 332lbs
Distance to Lincoln: 824.28 Miles
Profile: 83 247 – 5.7 RivalsHudl
Current Position: OT
Recruitment Position: OT
Branson Yager plays for Grantsville High School in Grantsville, Utah. His team currently sits at 5-5. Last season his team finished 10-3.
Yager plays offensive tackle; he can be punishing with his blocks and pancake guys that line up across from him. He was matched up against an All-American Defensive end last year and played okay. His frame, although massive, needs work. He will need to spend a lot of time in the S&C program, breaking himself down and building himself back up – he needs to improve his agility, speed off the line and flexibility. He has trouble at times getting across laterally to make blocks on rushing defenders. He has the poor tendency to lurch forward while trying to make blocks, causing him to miss them at times.
Yager is rated an 83 by 247. I think this an accurate rating. I think Yager could see a 2-point bump if his overall athleticism has improved, but looking at his senior film, he looks about the same as he did last year with slight improvements in blocking form. If Yager arrives on campus, drops weight to 300 and rebuilds himself from there, I think we could be looking at an interesting prospect at offensive tackle. Yager understand he needs time to develop, however, he needs to hit the ground running.
In Review
Nebraska’s 2021 recruiting class is not as star studded as our previous classes, but it contains a lot of athletes that have low floors but high ceilings. It is a much more local class than previous classes with 9 recruits coming from the 500-mile radius and an average distance to Lincoln of 583.2447 miles. I think this can be attributed to both COVID and the talent that seems to be on the rise in Nebraska.
I would describe this class as developmental. If the coaching staff can develop these players, it will be a very solid class. There are still some additions that the staff needs to make at DL to make this a complete class.
Notes/Fun Facts
Our highest rated recruit of this class is Thomas Fidone, rated as the #1 Tight End in the country at a 95. Our lowest rated is Cornerback, Malik Williams at an 81. I would consider the most underrated recruit of this class to be Gabe Ervin, rated an 84 or Henry Lutovsky, rated at an 87.
The farthest from Lincoln is Patrick Payton at 1405.29 miles, while the closest recruit is James Carnie at 19.8 miles.

2020.10.13 11:30 orange3cparts Asus ZenBook 13 UX325EA review

There's just some thing about a ZenBook. They are attractive, are usually exceptionally trim and light-weight, and due to Asus, have some ace up their digital sleeves. While in the case of your Asus ZenBook thirteen UX325EA ($999 reviewed, $949 starting), the microsoft surface pro 4 charger key sauce is Intel's new Tiger Lake chips. Less than Intel's new Evo initiative, Intel Tiger Lake chips give a lot more strong effectiveness, lengthier battery existence and also the introduction of Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi six. Plus, you have the added reward of your ZenBook's gorgeous yet sturdy chassis.
The ZenBook 13 is amongst the smallest and lightest laptops by using a 13.3-inch display that you can buy, measuring 0.55 by 8 by 11.ninety eight inches (HWD) and weighing just two.36 lbs. Evaluate that together with the Apple MacBook Air, which macbook pro a1278 charger rings up at 0.sixty three by eleven.ninety seven by 8.forty six inches and a couple of.8 lbs. Asus has pulled off quite an engineering feat here. And this kind of a small chassis necessitates particularly slim borders round the display screen, recognised as bezels. Asus claims the ZenBook thirteen has an 88 per cent screen-to-body ratio, not considerably off through the ninety % ratio in the 14-inch ZenBook 14.
Design
As with the design, right here ASUS chose to adhere to the demonstrated path. Firstly, I'd personally prefer to notice the compact dimensions. The brand new ZenBook thirteen is no bigger than an A4 sheet. How can this tiny thing be described as a 13-inch notebook? Moreover, ASUS ZenBook thirteen (UX325) is light-weight: it weights only 1.07 kg, that makes it incredibly relaxed to travel with.In the event you need somewhat more sparkle with your notebook, just take a gander within the chamfered sides that apple 45w magsafe 2 A1436 add an unassuming twinkle on the notebook. Would I like it to get a bit more pronounced like the attractive crimson copper accents on the Flip S? Sure, but some people like a more refined search.
The Asus ZenBook thirteen can be a looker, the same as most ZenBooks. Everything of the ZenBook 13's chassis is fabricated from Pine Gray aluminum alloy. There is not a great deal of bling save with the shiny chrome Asus emblem embedded from the lenovo yoga 520 charger 14IKBR center-left. And at the time your eye is there, make certain to show your consideration for the concentric circles cascading out over the lid. Even though it does not gather as several fingerprints as its convertible sister, the Asus ZenBook Flip S, it even now picks up its fair share.Apart from the slightly free touchpad hinge, the ZenBook thirteen provides a responsible tapping knowledge. You can also renovate the touchpad into a calculator, with virtual backlit buttons. This ZenBook thirteen lacks the one of a kind ScreenPad obtainable on a few other ZenBook designs, which lenovo 100s charger Chromebook 11-iby is usually an excellent matter. The ground breaking ScreenPad is often a combination of the secondary touch display and also a touchpad, but like Apple's Contact Bar, it is really not a must-have attribute. It mainly appeals to bleeding-edge dwellers who are willing to down load ScreenPad-compatible apps and wade through many configuration web pages.
Much to my surprise, is that Asus manages to pack in the many I/O ports needed for each day requirement. We've a HDMI two.0 port and two Thunderbolt three over the left, USB 3.two Gen one Type-A ports, along which has a microSD card reader on the appropriate. You could have found that it doesn't include dell xps 15 9560 charger an audio port, this is exactly why Asus packed within an USB-C to 3.5mm dongle for the people who nonetheless desire to join a 3.5mm jack audio earphones. I exploit a USB-C driven headset and also a set of Bluetooth TWS earbuds so I didn't have a dilemma with it.
Performance
The ZenBook thirteen is without doubt one of the initial creation laptops we've analyzed with Intel's Tiger Lake CPUs. The Intel Main i7-1165G7 has 4 cores, 8 threads, plus a foundation frequency of two.8GHz. It also takes advantage of Intel's most up-to-date Iris Xe Graphics processor. This integrated graphics motor presents performance approaching that lenovo yoga 530 charger of an entry-level gaming laptop using a discrete GPU, and is a boon to people who prefer an ultraportable notebook but once in a while need to engage in games on it. To check the ZenBook 13's general performance, I compared its outcomes on our benchmark assessments by using a number of other comparably priced ultraportable laptops, such as the Acer Swift three, the Apple MacBook Air, and also the HP Envy x360 13.
Sigh, Ice and Comet Lake, we scarcely realized ye. But because the sunlight sets on Intel's last-gen processors, it rises on its latest: Tiger Lake. Tiger Lake, Intel's third 10-nanometer chip, is created within the new Willow Lake architecture, a chip structure designed to make improvements to electrical power performance and xps 15 charger functionality. Using Intel's new SuperFin method, the corporation has correctly introduced greater clock speeds that Intel claims will translate into 20% far better effectiveness. The laptop ongoing to excel for the duration of our synthetic benchmarks; the technique scored 5,084 around the Geekbench 5 over-all performance check, pushing previous the four,030 quality notebook regular. The Swift 3, with its AMD Ryzen 7 4700U CPU, arrived closest to matching the ZenBook 13 which has a rating of 4,862. The Envy (Main i7-1065G7 CPU) and MacBook Air (Core i5-1030NG7 CPU) strike 3,487 and a pair of,738, respectively.
The ZenBook thirteen transcoded a 4K online video to 1080p in seventeen minutes and fifty one seconds, beating the 18:forty seven category regular in addition to the MacBook Air (27:10) and Envy (24:fifty six). On the other hand, the Asus could not outpace the Swift 3 which clocked a time of eleven minutes.Over the macbook pro 2014 charger Puget Photoshop benchmark, which loops as a result of 21 various Photoshop jobs three occasions per run, the ZenBook 13 attained a score of 742, skating earlier the 598 regular. The MacBook Air notched only 459 when the Swift 3 attained 549.1.
Display
The ZenBook 13's display screen provides a colourful practical experience with thoroughly clean depth when you're viewing videos. When i watched the acdp 100d01 Still In this article trailer within the ZenBook 13's thirteen.3-inch, 1920 x 1080-pixel matte display screen, I obviously saw the knit pattern in actress Zazie Beetz's rose-pink sweater. The light glinted off her massive, slim gold hoop earrings since the solar cascaded by way of her darkish brown hair.
The ZenBook 13 also lacks a touch-enabled monitor, which I uncover being a far more crucial oversight supplied the strong touch abilities designed into Windows ten that happen to be practical for day to day computing jobs like navigating web browsers and minimizing app windows. The ZenBook thirteen also lacks a 4K show solution. The 60w magsafe 2 power adapter A1435 only display screen readily available can be a full-HD (1,920 by 1,080 pixels) LED-backlit panel, which may be configured with possibly 450 nits or three hundred nits of brightness. Our test device has the brighter model, which I highly advocate except you're looking to eke out as much battery lifestyle as possible, wherein case the 300-nit backlight could be an improved selection.
The light-weight ZenBook thirteen is likewise simple about the eyes, with both Pine Grey or Lilac Mist colour strategies. I analyzed the previous edition, which feels suitable at home amid the other metal-finish laptops, just like the MacBook Professional, that commonly make up this corner on the sector. The distinctive concentric circle style and design that surrounds the 2012 macbook pro charger Asus emblem embedded into the exhibit lid does assist it stick out somewhat, even so. And if you would like an specifically distinctive ZenBook thirteen, order it in the vibrant Lilac Mist color scheme. It transforms the exterior and keyboard deck, but keeps exactly the same grey colour about the display borders, for your one of a kind two-tone seem.
Battery
I've examined the battery via several times for lengthy use on films and day-to-day do the job utilization. With movie, audio, and operate, it lasted me about thirteen to 14 hours of usage on battery. Most of the days, I would close my day with about 3 hrs of battery daily life left to invest before plugging it to cost.As you have found, the ZenBook 13 isn't going to feature the everyday charging port. In truth, it is now paired which has a 65W quick demand adapter. The machine has become ready to be driven through the common 5W to 20W USB C charger. With lenovo ac adapter adl45wcd most smartphones run by USB C charger, now you can share your cables together with the ZenBook with out carrying about a charging brick. This is really effortless particularly when you forgot your notebook charger when touring. Apart from that, the charging port works effectively for just about any USB powered gadget that is a smart shift enabling no space wasted in the event the system isn't charging.
There was a day in which I forgot to charge it and experienced 5% battery life still left after i arrived in the assembly spot. I made a decision to plug-in my energy financial institution and it had been a everyday living savior in which I could end an hour assembly with lenovo adl45wcd it and in many cases had it charged to 10%. Certainly, you cannot anticipate it to complete heavy-duty jobs on low-charge by using a 5V charger, you could nonetheless sort files and reply to crisis email messages with it.Thank you, Asus for holding the bloatware to your minimum. The company even managed to maintain Home windows 10's glut of application right down to a workable dimensions. So far as Asus-branded software goes, you can find MyAsus. It can be essentially a hub exactly where you may alter the display's shade temperature, set fan pace, electric power settings and Wi-Fi connections.
While the ZenBook 13 appears to be like satisfying and it is compact and light ample to not put a load in your shoulders when you are carrying it all around within a bag, I do not locate the laptop computer to get very as well-constructed since the XPS thirteen or Apple MacBook Pro are. There is a modest but noticeably regarding bit of flex after you tap on the a1278 charger palm relaxation. The hinge within the generously sized touchpad is also loose, ensuing in occasional rattling sounds that don't inspire confidence. Provided the affordable sub-$1,000 inquiring price tag, however, I suspect some customers are going to be able to miss these possible flaws.
There are only 4 indicator diodes about the laptop. All of them are white, apart from one particular that's orange. It really is on the left, the place it implies which the battery is charging. The other two diodes are within the keys, respectively, 1 inside the energy button (what's more, it suggests rest mode by flashing). Yet another can be noticed while in the CapsLock. Another 848293 850 LED is on the suitable: it indicates which the notebook is on or in slumber manner, virtually repeating the LED around the ability button. The last diode is found next to the webcam. All diodes glow dimly to interfere as very little as you possibly can in the dim.
The new item from ASUS obtained a thirteen.3-inch matte IPS-display using a Comprehensive Hd resolution (1920 X 1080) that has a 3 mm NanoEdge body. The monitor offers a peak brightness of 300 nits, averaging around 270 nits. The dell xps 13 charger show isn't really fairly as brilliant because the Dell XPS or MacBook Air, but still not just about as bad considering the price of your ultrabook. In keeping with ASUS, the display screen also provides 100% sRGB coverage.
I was delighted along with the good viewing angles, adequate brightness, and nearly fantastic coloration accuracy. The impression on the display screen is very premium quality for this manner factor. Black measurement confirmed a value of 0.298 lumens and 1106:1 distinction. The colour fidelity measurement confirmed a mean of a enjoyable 0.five deltaE, more than 1 price was blurred with surface pro 4 charger a single color (RGB: 0 ¨C 131.27 ¨C 162.36) using a price of three.29 deltaE. The image from the display is a snap to examine, the display screen by itself practically isn't going to glare, so it will likely be practical in your case to make use of the ultrabook even in direct daylight.
Bottom line
The Asus ZenBook 13 UX325EA straddles the road amongst organization and premium. For $999, you have a procedure rocking the fetching excellent looks in the company's top-tier laptops with a few from the durability and security features of the dell xps 15 charger ExpertBook, the company's new organization line. In addition, you can get the extra muscle of Intel's new 11th Gen chips and all the functions Intel's Evo initiative provides, such as around 13 hours of battery lifetime. And you simply may even game in the pinch (just not on the best configurations).
However, in case you are searching for a laptop computer with a brighter, a lot more vivid exhibit, the HP Envy 13 Wood Edition is an efficient choice. If you are within the current market for anything which has a whole lot of electrical power for under $700, there is certainly the macbook pro 2012 charger AMD variation Acer Swift three. But when you desire a laptop that's strong, nevertheless light-weight and classy with good efficiency and great longevity, the Asus ZenBook 13 UX325EA will be the approach to go.
